77052: K.K.’s Concert At The Plaza Set Review

Resident Services have been a key part of every Animal Crossing game, although they have been featured in different forms. For the latest Animal Crossing adventure, Resident Services have been located in the Town Hall found in the island’s Plaza. In New Horizons, Resident Services is a central point for the game, where you’ll find Tom Nook and Isabelle along with various useful services to help get the most from the game. It’s also where famed Animal Crossing musician, K.K. Slider performs his shows. The location’s importance to the world of Animal Crossing makes it another excellent place to be recreated in LEGO® form. Here’s a closer look at K.K.’s Concert at the Plaza LEGO Animal Crossing set.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of Animal Crossing New Horizons, many players of the game will be more familiar with the Town Hall version of Resident Services. This is a small building, often found in the central area of your island. However, it began life as a tent where Tom, Timmy and Tommy Nook reside. As the island’s newest resident, you are tasked with donating some bells, and eventually, the tent will be upgraded to a building, which is featured in this set.

The exterior of the Town Hall building includes several features from the game. To the left of the building is a Bulletin Board, which is used to post in-game messages. In the set, this is a printed element and features notes with nods to activities from the game, such as fishing, birthdays and K.K. performances. To the right of the doorway is a yellow box which features a small radio, which is used to play radio taisō and partake in group exercises with fellow residents. The flag, which is also featured in the Airport set, is also found flying next to the Town Hall. This can be customised with various 1×1 tiles. Directly in front of the Town Hall is a small plaza, which is made from two larger island plates. This is where famed singer K.K. Slider puts on his weekly shows.

Inside the Town Hall is where Tom Nook and Isabelle can be found, however, their workstations aren’t included in the set. Similar to all of the other Animal Crossing sets, the rear is the building is open. Because of this, the interior is quite basic. It does feature a Recycling Box, where discarded items are placed. There’s also a Nook Stop machine, where players can pay off their loans, spend Nook Miles and do some online shopping.

Alongside the Town Hall is another buildable piece of scenery which features a small cafe food stand offering a selection of sweet treats. Alongside the food stand is another tree, there are many different trees found in the games, and these also change with the seasons. So this set features an autumnal orange tree.

Although most of the set is inspired by New Horizons, the van is inspired by a more obscure Animal Crossing title called Welcome Amiibo. This was an updated version of the Nintendo DS title New Leaf, which added Amiibo support. The update included a campsite, where residents would arrive in RVs or camper vans. The RV included in the set is styled after K.K. Slider’s van. In LEGO form it manages to capture the unique style of the in-game RV. The yellow roof box can be removed to allow the side panels to split open. Although it’s a plain-looking van, the panels used in those split-apart sections feature printed musical notes. It’s nice to see the sets taking inspiration from the wider Animal Crossing game series.

The set features three Minifigures and they are all fan favourites. Firstly, Isabelle makes her second appearance in an Animal Crossing set. This time she’s wearing her exercise outfit, which she dons when partaking in the group stretching outside the Town Hall. It’s also an outfit she wears in Super Smash Bros. The head is the same as the previous version. Isabelle is joined by a very special Animal Crossing villager called Audie. This peppy wolf is believed to be named after an elderly gamer called Audrey. She logged thousands of hours of play in New Leaf. Audie is a great Minifigure, although she does suffer from the poor recreation of her dress outfit. The torso and short legs don’t do the job very well.

For many the allure of this set is the seemingly simple character of K.K. Slider. This dog character may not be very detailed or colourful but he’s legendary. The character is a famous in-game musician who visits your village to perform his unique collection of songs. It’s one of the best of the currently available Animal Crossing Minifigures.

Although one of the largest of the Animal Crossing sets currently available, the Town Hall isn’t overly detailed. But as I’ve mentioned in other Animal Crossing set reviews, I don’t mind that. The exterior of the buildings is more important than the interior. It’s a must-have for those hoping to build their own Animal Crossing villages. The location is an important part of the Animal Crossing experience.
