Animal Crossing is filled with colourful characters from fellow villagers to those who stop by on special occasions. But there is one long-time resident whose name strikes dread into players – Tom Nook. This unassuming raccoon is never far away should you need any home improvements, as long as you have the Bells, Nook has the goods. He’s also the owner of Nook’s Cranny, one of Animal Crossing’s most famous locations and also the subject of this LEGO® Animal Crossing set. For my final look at the first wave of LEGO Animal Crossing playsets, let’s see what Nook’s Cranny & Rosie’s House has to offer.

Nook’s Cranny has evolved a lot since the first Animal Crossing game. It began as a small wooden shack before becoming a convenience store, department store and supermarket. This set features the most recent iteration of the shop as featured in New Horizon. Oddly, Tom Nook doesn’t actually work in the store, Timmy and Tommy Nook run it. Supposedly, Timmy and Tommy are not related to Tom, despite also being raccoons and having the same surname. Despite the conflicting ownership, Tom Nook will forever be connected to Nook’s Cranny. The store is a pretty good recreation of the in-game building and features many of the details found there such as the Drop-off Box and Hot Items noticeboard. The shop’s sign is a stylised version, I’m assuming it doesn’t feature the store name to make the set a little more universal for non-English speaking regions.
This is only one of two sets that feature the residences of a villager. Rosie’s house is similar in style to Fauna’s but it is built in a slightly different way. Instead of having wooded framing on the building, the house here is mostly white. Inside the space is quite compact but there’s enough room to arrange the included furniture set in multiple ways. There are also two different sets of window frames, these can be swapped around and even switched with those found on Fauna’s House, same goes for the roof. There are plenty of different ways to add a little of your own style to the Animal Crossing sets, particularly the houses.
In each of my reviews of the Animal Crossing sets, I marvelled at the connections to the games and how the LEGO Design Team are big fans of the game. As mentioned above, Nook’s Cranny has a drop-off box and notice board, it also has a cabinet with a recipe tile along with a box of fish bait and seeds. Over in Rosie’s house is a printed 2×2 tile replicating K.K Slider’s Bubblegum K.K. album cover. Plus a cute bag of Bells.
Along with the two buildings the set also features a trio of island plates. One features an outdoor patio set, which matches the colours of Rosie’s interior furniture set. The other includes another tree, with this set featuring oranges. I like that all of the Animal Crossing sets include different fruits. The third plate is blank and makes a comically misaligned extension to the front of Rosie’s home.
Tom Nook has been a part of the Animal Crossing series since the very first game. He’s had different roles across those games, but his financial offerings are infamous with players. Nook is a raccoon, named after the Japanese word for raccoon – tanuki. He’s previously been featured in the games wearing nothing but an apron, thankfully in minifigure-form he’s based on his appearance in New Horizon. Here he wears a green-leaf pattern shirt featuring the Animal Crossing leaf logo, which is the uniform of Resident Services. He features articulated short legs with a bushy tailpiece and a unique head. Rosie is another long-term character, first appearing in the original Animal Crossing game and each one since. Rosie is a cat character and wears a pink dress-like outfit dubbed the Dazed Shirt. Similar to Bunnie, these long tops with nothing on the legs don’t work so well on the minifigure characters.
We’ve begun our adventures with Bunnie, celebrated Julian’s big day, taken a boat trip with Kapp’n and visited Fauna’s house. Now, after stopping by Nook’s Cranny, that’s it for my reviews of the new LEGO Animal Crossing sets until later this year. Upcoming sets are rumoured to include K.K. Slider and a pair of aviation enthusiasts. All of the LEGO Animal Crossing sets are available now, although they continue to be extremely popular.
