Continuing the unexpected look at the new LEGO® Harry Potter Summer sets, this next set continues the trend of unusual builds offered by the theme. Over the last couple of years, the Wizarding World sets have expanded beyond simple playsets to offer some interesting builds and display pieces. The latest is inspired by the fictional sport of Quidditch. It’s also another LEGO set to offer numerous customisation options. So here’s a look at the LEGO Harry Potter Quidditch Trunk set.

The Harry Potter theme has been really pushing the variety of sets it offers. The Quidditch Trunk is basically a variant of the Hogwarts Magical Trunk released last year. Both sets offer a play area hidden within a surprisingly small truck. For this latest version, the interior of the truck becomes a mini grass pitch, with various bits and pieces which can transform it into a Quidditch Pitch. The trunk part of the build is created from three made sections, the two sides of the trunk, which are connected together with a hinge joint. Then there’s a small wall-like section, which connects to the pitch. So when the trunk is closed it forms one side of it. This also acts as a place to mount the house crests, broomsticks and other accessories. I did find that I almost constantly knocked the panel out of place then picking up the enclosed trunk.
As mentioned, there are various pieces you can add to the trunk when in pitch-from to replicate the game of Quidditch. These include a trio of rings which can be mounted to the side of the trunk and there’s a moveable bar connected to the trunk handles. A clear rod can be connected to this along with a minifigure, to give the illusion of flying. There’s also a disc shooter, these different pieces can be combined to ‘play’ three different games. These additional pieces can be connected to the back of the trunk when closed and the instructions suggest that the minifigures can so be slotted into the trunk, but it’s extremely tight. It’s not a good of a system as the House Banners, which can nicely contain all the accessories when closed.
The set includes four minifigures which represent each of the four Hogwarts Houses. So these feature the kit worn by Quidditch players in each of the four house colours, complete with the relevant coloured cape and a unique hooded collar piece. The torsos and legs are purposely generic which ties into another feature of the set. As well as the heads and hair pairing which become the four named characters, the set also includes a number of additional skin tone heads and hairstyles. These can be used to create many different combinations of custom characters. It’s a nice feature to have but I can see most people simply using the pieces to create the named characters.
Overall
One thing that I was surprised about when building the set, was its size. When closed into its trunk form, it’s smaller than I expected it to be. However, it does have the ability to store almost the extra prices and minifigures in or on it. Speaking of which, the additional elements are a nice way to inject a little personality into the set, although I expect most people will simply build the named characters. The play functions are a little simple and samey but at least they try to replicate the game of Quidditch, even if it’s very loosely. I certainly wouldn’t say it’s worth the price tag. I can only assume the various extra minifigures pieces have expanded the RRP. However, I still like the fact, the theme continues to try new things.
