Buildable LEGO® figures aren’t a new concept, it’s been used to create bigger characters for many years. The most recent crop of Construction Figures began in 2022 with Iron Man and soon expanded to include several other Marvel characters. The format’s been revisited for Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, Captain America: Brave New World. This time it’s the turn of Sam Wilson’s Captain America. After looking at the Brave New World playset, it’s time to turn attention to the awkwardly named New Captain America Construction Figure set.

As mentioned buildable action figures aren’t a new concept, but one which has evolved. Introducing new elements has allowed them to become far more detailed and have better means of connecting sections. The latest incarnation of buildable characters is known as Construction Figures. These rely less on specialist elements and feature far more standard pieces to craft a larger-scale figure. This offers a better buildable experience as you aren’t just cladding a special jointed frame with unique pieces.
That’s not to say every piece is standard. Although most of the pieces were used to construct Captain America’s body, a unique headpiece was introduced with the Iron Man Construction Figure. This has since been used on most of the preceding characters. Some have been augmented with the addition of other elements. This is the case for Sam Wilson’s Captain America. As he still makes use of his wings for flight, his cowl doubles as an enclosed flight helmet. The oxygen mask sits in front of the printed helmet plate and has a pipe running along the left side of the head. This makes excellent use of a space blaster to form the pipe.
The helmet plate isn’t the only unique or printed piece found in the set. The chest plate, which uses elements often found as a bonnet or roof in a vehicle set, is printed. So too is the large disc plate which forms Captain America’s iconic shield. Like the other version of Captain America, the shield can be mounted onto a pin plate on Captain America’s right hand. It’s a shame a red element was used here as it would blend better with the shield’s white star center.
The most unique part of the figure is the huge wings. As Sam Wilson was previously the Falcon, he continues to use the military-grade wings. These have been incorporated into the new Captain America suit. For this set, they take the form of two unique film wings, which connect to a frame of Technic beams and pins. This structure connects to the back of the figure and is also home to a removable Redwing Drone.
The Marvel Construction Figures make excellent display pieces. But they can also be played with thanks to the various points of articulation. They probably won’t be as robust as a proper action figure, but that’s the joy of LEGO bricks, they can be rebuilt easily enough. I also like the strategy of offering different types of sets for a Marvel film. If you like minifigures, go for the Hulk Battle set. If you collect BrickHeadz, go for the new double pack or there is this set to choose from as well. The New Captain America Construction Figure will be available from December 1st and you can pre-order the set now.
