Iron Man closely follows Spider-Man in terms of Mech Armour sets. The first wave of Mech Armour Suits unsurprisingly included Iron Man, a character who is clad in an armoured suit anyway. As is the case with the multiple Spider-Man Mechs, the latest Iron Man suit offers a different design and unique Minifigure. But does that warrant yet another Iron Man set? Here’s a look at the final LEGO® Marvel Mech Armour set – Iron Man Mech Armor.

Of all the various Marvel characters, Iron Man is probably the best suited for some Mech Armour. After all, it’s not far off what Tony Stark wears when he puts on his Iron Man armour. Although the Mech Armour isn’t inspired by any particular comic book or movie armour, it does follow the same colour scheme as the minifigure featured in the set. So there’s a large amount of gold trim used against the dark red. These colours don’t gel as well with the grey jointed areas as some of the other sets. But whilst they don’t look great they do offer a decent amount of articulation. Although the box image uses the original design of the mech, the connection points between the waist and legs have been tweaked to make the set a little more stable.
In terms of details, the set offers a new style stud shooter on one arm and a sort of energy shield on the other. These are incorporated well into the set and when coupled with the various joints, you can capture plenty of Stark-like poses. The detailing found on the feet and one of the hands is achieved through stickers but the NEXO shield on the chest plate is printed. I do like this element, even more so when it’s printed.
Iron Man minifigures are a highlight of many sets, particularly when they offer something new. The one included in this set is all-new and currently unique. It appears to be inspired by the MK42 suits, which appeared in both Iron Man 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. This offers a largely golden coloured suit, with minimal red trim. In fact, the suit has so much golden colouring, both the legs and body use a gold base. The helmet is the new style single piece, I know many prefer the flip-fronted original helmet, but the new one seems to match the overall style of the suit a lot more. The minifigure also includes two of the Power Blast elements for an added flair of playability.
Review Round-up
Despite this being the second Iron Man Mech Armour set, it’s different enough to offer something new. The various colours of the armour blend well and match nicely with the minifigure. It also has a few cool features, both in terms of play and design. The shield is a great touch and the use of the shimming blue colour adds to that. As much as the set offers something new, the appeal for most will be the unique minifigure. So although it’s yet another Iron Man mech, at least it offers a new Iron Man suit.
