76169: Thor Mech Armour Set Review

The God of Thunder may already be mighty, but he can always become a little mightier thanks to the addition of an armoured mech suit. Just like the rest of the LEGO® Marvel Mech Armour sets, they are each inspired by the suit of their relevant superhero suit. The mech Thor is similar to Thor’s classic comic book appearance, which combines nicely with a rather cool Thor Minifigure. So let’s see what the set has to offer in another 2021 set review.

The Build

Although mech suits aren’t seen within the world of Marvel movies beyond Iron Man, some are characters looks are more suited to them than others, which is the case here. Thor’s bulky appearance and armoured chest plate, translate nicely into the style of the Mech Armour. The NEXO KNIGHT shield features print detail, with other graphics applied via the medium of stickers, on the shoulder plates, around the waist and on his brick-built hammer. You can place the Thor Minifigure inside mech by flipping down chest place.

The rest of Thor’s appearance is captured via a couple of panels clipped on the back of the mech, which look a little like the cape. Plus the pearl sliver elements add an extra splash of godliness. He may have lost Mjolnir during the most recent MCU films, but his mighty hammer is an iconic part of this appearance. The set features a brick-built version of the weapon to the scale of the Mech Armour. The blend of transparent blue bricks and sticker details look really cool when combined with the rest of the set.

The Minifigure

A running trend of these Mech Suits is the impressive nature of the included Minifigures. Here you’ll find Thor, the god of thunder, who has appeared in a number of sets previous to this one. However, the version here includes his classic winged helmet. This iconic look hasn’t really been seen in the MCU sets, apart from two based on Ragnarok. So this is an amazing chance to this version of Thor to your collection. The classic look is continued on the torso, where the six large button panels. The only downside of the Minifigure is the lack of a material cape. There is a sweep of a cape printed on the torso, but no actual cape for the Minifigure.
