75359: 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack Review

If there’s one thing LEGO® Star Wars fans enjoy more than moaning, it’s a good old Battle Pack. These small-scale sets were a sneaky way to provide minifigure characters without encroaching on the licencing agreements Lucasfilm had with other companies. The Battle Packs are also great ways for people to amass a large number of characters to build their own armies. This latest LEGO Star Wars Battle Pack is inspired by the 332nd Clone Trooper company created by Captain Rex and formed to help Ashoka Tano on Mandalore. Here’s a look at 332nd Ahoka’s Clone Trooper Battle Pack.

Despite the Clone Troopers having the same face, as the Clone Wars raged on, they gained a sense of individuality with names and by forming various detachments. One such detachment was formed by Captain Rex to assist Ahsoka Tano’s face-off against Maul during his siege of Mandalore. Although Ahsoka was no longer a Jedi at this point, the 332nd troopers still looked to her as their commander and they even painted their helmets to replicate her face print.

Although the focus of Battle Packs is mostly the figures, they contain additional buildable elements to transform them from mere packs of minifigures into mini playsets. There are two building elements in the set, the first is a mounted gun, which is just that – a stud shooter gun on a stand. The other may look like a weapon, but it’s actually a Swamp Speeder. It’s more of an unusual shape compared to other speeders. It has two seats, which are set behind a couple of curved panels. There are even clips on the rear part of the speeder to attach the trooper’s blaster. It lacks any controls or weaponry but it’s still a unique little build.

Normally, Battle Packs feature generic characters, but this one offers CT-0292 aka Clone Captain Vaughn. This differs from the other three troopers thanks to a slightly different torso design. You’ll notice, there is a rank bar on the front of the armour and a different design on the back. You can also attach an orange visor to the helmet, thanks to the addition of holes on the redesigned helmets. The other three Clones all have the same armour, with two of them also sporting a blue jetpack. As Clones, they obviously all feature the same heads. Despite the named character, all four figures are generic enough to help swell the ranks of your own Clone Army should you wish to build one.

Overall

I have little vested interest in the Battle Pack sets beyond owning a single set, but I’m fully aware of a certain LEGO Star Wars fanbase who like to buy multiple sets to pack out large-scale MOCs. Obviously, with four minfigures this set continues that need but unfortunately, the price has once again crept up. I prefer the cheaper Minifigure Accessory Packs for these sorts of characters. The Accessory Pack may feature smaller buildable elements but still offer the ability to feature multiple minifigures. As mentioned in a review many months ago. The Battle Packs would be a great way to deliver characters who are difficult to place in other sets, along with multiples of generic characters and then Accessory Packs should be used to deliver purely generic characters. I certainly wouldn’t mind the higher price point of a Battle Pack if it gave us something a little more unique. This particular set offers an interesting array of minifigures and the speeder is unique, I’m just not sure it warrants the even higher pricing. (Please note Ashoka is NOT included in this set)
