Introduced in the Summer this year, LEGO DREAMZzz is the latest original story theme from the creative minds behind NINJAGO and Legends of CHIMA. DREAMZzz follows the adventures of a group of kids who enter the dream realm to help stave off the Nightmare King and his army of Grimspawn. These adventures are set to continue in 2024 with a second season of the animated show and of course, exciting new sets. I’ll be taking a look at the upcoming 2024 sets, starting with Izzie’s Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon.

Although the first wave of LEGO DREAMZzz sets were varied, they didn’t offer many lower price point sets. Thankfully, that’s not the case with the first 2024 sets and one of the cheaper sets being released on January 1st is Izzie’s Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon. This unique little set may offer a cheaper, smaller build but it’s still packed with the creative flare often found in original theme sets. Plus it can be built in alternate forms.
The main focus of the set is a cute little narwhal, this whale-like creature already feels a little mythical thanks to its unicorn horn, and this LEGO version leans into that. The purple, blue and white colours may be far from the colouring of real narwhals but they work well here especially as they match the style of Izzie. Once the narwhal is built, the instructions are then split off into two different paths. The first transforms the narwhal into a hot-air balloon, with a basket connected to its undercarriage.
The second build path uses many of the same elements as the basket but they become a chariot. It’s largely the same as the balloon basket but connects to the tail section of the narwhal. Both versions are fun and I don’t know which I prefer but the switching of builds is simple enough to try both.
The set includes one minifigure, Izzie, who is one of the main characters in the world of DREAMZzz. Izzie appears in her Dream Realm outfit, which has been used in previous sets. Although not a unique minifigure, the detailing on the outfit is impressive. I particularly like the character’s transparent two-tone hair. Izzie is joined by two smaller characters who include Bunchu in his smaller form. The set also features a Grimspawn, these unique characters were introduced in the DREAMZzz theme and their dark colouring easily denotes their evil alliance with the Nightmare Realm.
Izzie’s Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon will be available from January 1st, 2024 along with the other new LEGO DREAMZzz sets. Stay tuned for a look at the other sets in the theme, over the next few days.
