As mentioned in my review of the Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon the first wave of LEGO® DREAMZzz sets didn’t offer any smaller, pocket-money-friendly sets. That’s been rectified with the second collection of sets due to be released on January 1st, 2024. The smallest LEGO DREAMZzz set so far is Mateo’s Off-Road Car, which is inspired by Z-Blob and can be built in one of two different ways. Continuing the 2024 LEGO DREAMZzz set reviews, here’s a closer look at set 71471.

The main model of the set is Off-Road Car, the body of the vehicle acts as the base for the build. Once completed the instructions split into two different styles of builds. Sticking with the ‘hero’ build, it becomes a four-wheeler dune buggy-type vehicle. You’ll notice that the vehicle is similar to Z-Blob in its mech form, that’s because the buggy is a transformed version of Mateo’s heroic creation. This is shown by the buggy’s transparent green tubes used on the wheels of the dune buggy and the tiny Z-Blob head on the back of it.
The alternate version of the set is a quadcopter. This uses the same base as the dune buggy but the wheels are swapped out for a series of propellers. A couple of tyres are also fitted to the back of the vehicle.
As a smaller set, it only includes one minifigure which is another one of the main characters, Mateo. This version of the character has appeared in other sets, it would have been nice to have something a little more unique. Although not minifigures, the set also includes a couple of additional characters in the form of a smaller Grimspawn bug and an even smaller version of Z-blob. As Z-Blob has transformed himself into the vehicle, that’s why he is portrayed on such a smaller scale in this set.
It’s nice to see the DREAMZzz theme offer smaller sets as they could introduce more people to the theme. Mateo’s Off-Road Car will be available from January 1st, 2024 along with the other new LEGO DREAMZzz sets. Stay tuned for a look at the other sets in the theme, over the next few days.
