The scale of LEGO® Super Mario sets vastly varies and this particular set is one of the smallest of all the boxed sets. It’s similar to the Baby Bowser’s Clown Car in the sense that it doesn’t integrate into the LEGO Super Mario ecosystem as a piece of scenery. Instead, the Goomba’s Shoe is a sort of vehicle for the interactive figures to be placed in. Here’s a very brief look at the set and how it interacts with the LEGO Super Mario theme overall.

You would be forgiven for wondering exactly what the Goomba’s Shoe is, that’s because it’s one of the most uncommon of the Mario power-ups. This giant wind-up footwear first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 in the late 80s. In the game, a Goomba would be riding inside the shoe and trying to stomp on Mario. However, the tides could be turned and Mario could take the Goomba’s place and serve his own shoe-based justice.
With this being such a minimal set, there is very little building involved. There’s a small Goomba character, which is built in the same way as all other versions of the character. This sits atop of an island plate so can be added to one of your level builds. As with most Mario enemies, the Goomba features an Action Brick, which offers up coins when ‘stomped’ upon by Mario, Luigi or Peach.
The main aspect of the set is a large green show. This uses the same elements created to represent a warp pipe. The resulting opening to the shoe is the perfect size for Mario, Luigi or Peach to sit in there. When they do, there’s an Action Brick which activates a familiar Mario tune and moving the shoe with one of the interactive figures in it, allows you to gain bonus coins. In the sole of the show here’s a springy plate, which sort of adds to the bouncing motion you need to deploy in order to gain more coins. I must admit it’s one of the least exciting of the LEGO Super Mario sets. But if you’re a completist at least it’s not an expensive set. (Please note LEGO Mario figure is not included)
