40463: LEGO Easter Bunny Set Review

Every Easter we are treated to at least one LEGO® set to celebrate the occasion. In a similar fashion to Valentine’s Day, past sets have included Minifigure scenes, BrickHeadz and even a buildable egg. This year we have an Easter Bunny, which follows a similar style of set as this year’s Valentine’s Day set. Unsurprisingly, rabbits have featured by heavily in past Easter sets, but this one does offer something a little different. So ahead of the set’s release on February 1st, here’s my review of the Easter 2021, the Easter Bunny.

The Build

The build begins with a seemingly simple base and just like the Valentine’s Brown Bear, the base includes a hidden surprise. For this set that is a tasty carrot. It’s there to help keep the top plate secure, but I enjoy the fact it’s also a carrot, as it adds to the fun of the build. The base is built to look like a grassy mound and has a couple of jumper plate, similar to the BrickHeadz sets, on which the bunny part of the build can be connected.

The rest of this display plate features is fairly simplistic with a few flowers dotted about. But a splash of colour is added from a pair of miniature Easter eggs. One is purple and pink, with the other being a couple of shades of blue, and both of decorated with colourful quarter tiles. They almost feel DOTS inspired. These are also connected via jumper plates, with one slightly raised on a small rocky section.

The main aspect of the build is a cute little bunny. As mentioned above rabbits have appeared in a number of Easter sets, but the one in this set looks a little more inspired by the actual animal instead of a cartooney take on one. Because of this, the build feels a little different than past Easter sets. The mixture of curved plates and angular bricks help to create the perfect body shape for the bunny. With the back legs and head built independently to the body and mounted by ball joints. These don’t much in terms of posing, but really add to the overall appearance of the bunny. The ears of the bunny are also connected via ball joints and offer a little more movement compared to the other sections. It’s a shame that some of the elements used for these sort of joints are only available in a singular colour, but they aren’t that noticeable against the sandy colour of the rest of the bunny.

The cartooney takes on rabbits are great, but I must admit this more realistic style build has resulted in one of my favourite Easter sets and in fact seasonal sets in recent years. I also like the continued style from Valentine’s set, so I hope upcoming seasonal sets for Halloween and beyond, also follow the same style. The Easter Bunny will be available directly from LEGO.com and LEGO stores from February 1st. Please note the links below will not be live until the product is added to LEGO.com.
