For the last couple of Christmases, we’ve been treated to some festive themed LEGO® BrickHeadz builds. These have included Santa and Mrs Claus, plus a pair of elves and a rabid reindeer. This year we get the first single festive BrickHeadz, which is inspired by the Nutcracker soldier. The Nutcracker is based on a German tradition, which saw a small toy doll given as a gift, in time these evolved to also become tools for cracking nuts. This isn’t the first time there has been a LEGO version but is the BrickHeadz Nutcracker worth adding to your festive collection?
Product Description
LEGO® BrickHeadz™ Nutcracker (40425) recreates the Nutcracker Prince from the famous Christmas story. This special BrickHeadz toy incorporates an open-and-close mouth and, in keeping with the Christmas theme, comes complete with Christmas tree and presents. The model has its own character ID and a sturdy baseplate for easy display, either individually or alongside other BrickHeadz models. Great gift for BrickHeadz collectors and any kid at Christmas.

The Build
Although the BrickHeadz follow a familiar build style, certain characters do deviate from it in order to capture certain traits or features. Which is the case for the Nutcracker and its moving mouth. In order to be able to add a working mechanism to move the jaw, the body is built slightly differently. A Technic beam is used as a lever to move the lower part of the mouth. It’s a simple motion but fun to have it included. The rest of the build is a little more familiar, with a series of 1x2x2 bricks clad in various other elements to create the iconic look of the Nutcracker soldier. I like how the tall hat section has been created with a few elements often used for car bonnets or roofs.
The standard black base stand is jazzed up with the addition of two side plates, these features a few festive trinkets. On one side is a pile of wrapped gifts and on the other is a miniature Christmas tree, adorned by lights. I like that this is brick-built instead of being a moulded tree.
Overall
It’s a fun little build as it offers something slightly different to most other BrickHeadz sets. The inner core and the addition of a lever to move the mouth is fun as well. I also like that there is a bit of additional scenery, not only does this add a little more colour, it follows the similar designs of past seasonal BrickHeadz. The need to include a moveable mouth isn’t necessary but it’s a welcome addition. The Nutcracker would look great next to past BrickHeadz, which are still available now from LEGO.com.
