One of this year’s first festive LEGO® builds to be revealed was the 342-piece Christmas Stocking set. Like many seasonal LEGO sets, the brick-built stocking can decorate your home with festive cheer. It’s stuffed with some holly, a gingerbread tree and a candy cane. It also includes an exclusive Nutcracker Soldier minifigure. Here’s a closer look at the LEGO Christmas Stocking.

Before Christmas gifts were given en masse, the stocking was a popular means of delivering festive gratitude. They still form a nostalgic part of Christmas celebrations, but mostly as decoration. This LEGO brick version incorporates some of the traditions associated with stocking, including one hidden within the build. As you construct the set, the base includes various plates, including a circular orange coloured one to represent the popular inclusion of the citrus fruit in simpler times. The exterior of the stocking features a pattern created by various 1×1 tiles, which offers a similar build experience to the old LEGO DOTS sets.
The top of the stocking is decorated with festive adornments including a Candy Cane, a sprig of holly and a gingerbread Christmas tree. These add a pop of colour to the build. There’s also room to place the set’s minifigure, which is a Nutcracker Soldier. You could also swap it out for any other festive minifigure if you want to make your decoration a little more unique. (Santa minifigure not included in this set)
There have been various forms of Nutcracker Soldiers featured in LEGO sets, but most have been brick-built. The only minifigure version was featured in the Series 23 LEGO Minifigures. Compared to that, this new version is a little disappointing. It features a much more muted uniform and a simple soldier hat. This was first used in the early 90s sets and has appeared sporadically ever since. The gold shoulder epaulette helps to give it some extra detail. The Nutcracker can be placed in a small dip in the top of the stocking.
As a purely display-focused set, you can choose to have it stand on a surface, thanks to the built-in stand. It can also be hung, thanks to the included ring element. It’s a fun festive build and something which can be easily incorporated into your Christmas displays. It does feel a tad overpriced for what it offers, especially when compared to some of the other Christmas sets available this year. The LEGO Christmas Stocking set is available now.
