Since the return of LEGO® sets inspired The Lord of the Rings, the large showpiece models have been paired with some impressive companion GWP sets. As the latest trip to brick-built Middle-Earth heads to the capital of Gondor, the upcoming Minas Tirith set will include a bonus GWP set inspired by the Grond battling ram. This menacing weapon is used by the force of Mordor to breach the defences of the White City. Here’s a look at the exclusive Minas Tirith GWO set, 40893: Grond.

“Grond with breach it, bring up the wolf’s head”, with these words, Grond is summoned by Gothmog to help breach the doors of Gondor’s White City. The huge battering ram forged in Mordor is so big it’s pulled by four Great Beasts and is powered by a gang of trolls. In LEGO form, it is built in two sections, the first being the frame. This includes a bar which spans the middle of the frame. This is used to swing Grond once it’s in place.
Grond is styled to look like a menacing wolf, with flame spewing from its mouth. Here, those flames are a little less fearsome, but overall, the appearance of the wolf ram is quite impressive. Once complete, the ram is placed into the middle of the frame, with the central bar lining up with a notch on the underside of the ram. It’s them held in place by four chains. Moving the bar causes the ram to move. It’s a little awkward to get the chains to line up, so the ram sits level. However, once it’s in place, it looks great.
The set includes two minifigures, which are Orcs. Although technically exclusive, both of the Orcs’ legs and torsos were used in the Barad-Dûr set from 2024. Both have unique heads with two different expressions to display. The green Orc reuses the green ear hairpiece with his reddish orange chum, sporting a helmet previously used for the Series 20 LEGO Minifigures.
If you are planning to pick up Minas Tirith, it would be best to do so during launch week, as you’ll be able to get this set for free. It’s a nice companion to the larger set and continues the trend of impressive GWP sets to be paired with The Lord of the Rings sets. You’ll be able to obtain the Grond set with purchases of the Minas Tirith set between June 1st and 7th. LEGO Insiders have early access to both set 11377 and the GWP between June 1st and 3rd.
