Designed by Fans, for Fans
Launched in 2021, the BDP gives fan designers the opportunity to share their My Own Creations (MOCs) with the community, where fans vote to help decide the five finalists during the Crowd Support phase. The finalists’ designs then have a chance to be produced as official sets and sold on LEGO.com during the Crowdfunding period. To be produced, designs must receive a minimum of 3,000 pre-orders. Finalists whose sets are produced receive a percentage of the net sales plus five copies of their sets.
Series 8 Fun Facts
- The Fan Designer for Brick Railroad Locomotive designed the model to be
motorized with Technic motors, which have higher torque and allow the locomotive to pull more rolling stock if fans choose to motorize. Motors are not included. - Coconut Cape follows pirates returning to collect their buried treasure chest, only to discover that the governor has built a fort on top of it!
- Dustmark Keep is the home of the Serpent faction. The Horse Knights launch a daring escape plot for their king, who has been captured.
- University of Science is the largest BDP set ever by weight (4.7 kilos), which is nearly 25% heavier than the next-largest BDP set.
- Hot Air Balloon includes all the elements needed to be built in two different color patterns.
More Chances to Get Involved
BDP continues to move forward with new series and more opportunities for fan builders. We’re currently accepting submissions for Series 11 from April 20th to May 4th. The Crowd Support phase starts May 11th, where members can vote for their favorite MOCs to help decide which ones become finalists. We’re also introducing a new mobile-friendly way to vote for Series 11, where you can swipe left or right through designs
Lastly, we’re preparing to launch Series 12, the first BrickLink Designer Program series that will be delivered to fans in 2028. It will also mark the start of our new naming convention, which we’ll share more details about soon. In the meantime, we’re collaborating with the five Series 9 Fan Designers to prepare their builds for production ahead of Crowdfunding in October 2026.

Brick Railroad Locomotive
Designed by TRBricks
From the Designer
Welcome to the Brick Railroad.
The model presented here is an A-unit. The original was built in the USA in the early 1950s and became a true icon there for both freight and passenger trains.
The model reflects the condition of the early 1970s, when some models were converted from their original red/metallic look to a blue/yellow look. I chose the color combination because it allowed the curves to be represented with corresponding bricks without the need for additional stickers.
In addition to the visual appeal, attention was also paid to ensuring that the locomotive can be retrofitted with motors and can handle modern track curves without any problems. It can be switched on and off using a button, so opening the locomotive is not necessary.

Coconut Cape
Designed by BallisticBricks
From the Designer
Land Ho! With its strong walls and strategic defenses, Coconut Cape serves as a guardian of the ocean, deterring pirates and ensuring the safety of the surrounding trade routes. It stands as a beacon for ships and a refuge for the weary. Remember to always keep an eye out for hidden treasure! Buried deep within the walls, a secret compartment reveals precious gold and gems for the plundering!
Coconut cape is back for Series 8! I’ve made several structural improvements, which make the model much more stable and reduce the part count close to 100 pieces from its series 5 predecessor while maintaining the original look of the fort. Furthermore, I’ve built the model physically to test the design in the real world, which can be seen in the fifth image.

Dustmark Keep
Designed by brickhucker
From the Designer
Welcome to Dustmark Keep, the sun-scorched heart of the enigmatic Bounty Hunter’s Guild. Nestled deep in the uncharted Outland, far beyond the reach of civilization and the strife of warring factions, this sand-swept fortress thrives in isolation. Its remote and desolate surroundings offer unparalleled safety and secrecy, making it an ideal haven for the Guild’s operations. Amidst the unrelenting dunes, Dustmark Keep rises like a defiant monument, offering refuge and strength to its hardened members.
The Keep’s legendary bounty board is its lifeblood, displaying an array of lucrative contracts. High-paying public bounties vie for attention alongside clandestine commissions from rival factions eager to cloak their hands in the shadows of plausible deniability. Here, intrigue mingles with opportunity, and every mark carries a story—of ambition, betrayal, or desperation.
Renowned for their unparalleled precision and efficiency, the Guild commands a reputation—and fees—worthy of their elite status. Their success is reflected in Dustmark Keep itself, a fortress that thrives against the odds in the desolate wilderness, a testament to the Guild’s unwavering prowess and resourcefulness. This wealth sustains not only their operations but also their fierce independence.
The Bounty Hunter’s Guild owes allegiance only to themselves and the glint of coin. No faction, no ruler, and no law lies beyond their reach. Their members are masters of their craft: elite warriors, assassins, saboteurs, and smugglers, bound by a code of professionalism that ensures discretion and ruthlessness in equal measure. In Dustmark Keep, every deal is sealed in sand and steel, and every bounty is but a step in the endless dance of survival and power.

University of Science
Designed by KingCreations
From the Designer
Welcome to the University of Science, home of the Owls and the premier higher education center for your minifigures! With this model, I embraced the maximum part count allowed for BDP to create a substantially sized building filled with educational rooms.
The build started with the exterior design. Inspired by various castles, academies, and other pieces of architecture, the university is full of varying yet cohesive styles and sections to form a unique look and a more interesting building experience.
My goal with the build was to capture the large scale of a real university campus while keeping it easy to present and place in a city, which gave me the idea to have two main forms of display. In open form, it better captures the scale of real universities and is over a meter wide! It also allows the build to fit onto a wider variety of shelving. In closed form, there is no open back to the model, which allows it to be easily placed next to other buildings in a city layout and gives a display option that is less wide.
With the interior, I wanted to reference many different areas of science that a real-life university might offer, such as astronomy, anatomy, geology, archeology, botany, and chemistry. I also wanted to include more common parts of a university, such as a library, classrooms, and a grand entrance.

- Ages: 18+

Hot Air Balloon
Designed by ExeSandbox
From the Designer
Take to the plastic skies with the Hot Air Balloon!
Inspired by the color limitations of the LEGO Panel 4 x 4 x 11 Curved Tapered with Clip at Each End (18969), I set out to create a fully custom design for a hot air balloon with a gradient of colors and a fuller shape.
To complement this aircraft, a cloud base is included to balance the top-heavy balloon and a pair of seagulls to endlessly annoy the little pilot Minifigure and their dog.

- Ages: 18+

- Measurements (W x D x H): 26.6 x 17.9 x 26.8 cm (10.5 x 7 x 10.6 in.)
