After debuting last year as part of the LEGO® Marvel theme, the Bust Collection heads to a galaxy far, far away. One of the first two characters to feature in the Star Wars Bust Collection is the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader. This mini bust transforms Lord Vader into a space-friendly display piece, which also includes a minifigure. Here’s a quick look at the newly released LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Bust.

As you build the set, you begin with the plinth, where the bust is mounted. Partway through the build, you are presented with the option to complete the build in one of two ways. You can choose to build the plinth with an area to mount the included minifigure or not. If you include a space for the minifigure, some of the elements used on the bottom section differ. It’s very easy to switch between the two options. The Vader minifigure isn’t anything special, but it’s the most ‘complete’ version of the character with printed detail on the legs and arms.
Vader’s life-preserving suit is mostly black, but it actually has grey detailing. They may seem oddly placed here, especially as only part of the suit is featured, but they help to define the it’s detail. Plus, the grey bits break up the black. The features on Vader’s mask are mostly achieved with elements. I especially enjoy the vehicle wheel trims used to frame his eyes, but there are a couple of printed elements used. These include two triangular plates used to replicate the breather part of the mask.
One of the criticisms aimed, quite rightly, at the Marvel busts was their pricing. Surprisingly, this particular set is cheaper than the Iron Man and Iron Spider-Man busts. Despite that, it does still feel a little overpriced. It does include a few uniquely printed pieces and a few large elements, which I guess has affected the price. However, considering the scale of the set, it manages to capture Vader’s iconic appearance, with an impressive, most impressive, level of detail. The Darth Vader Bust will be joined by a Jedi Master Yoda Bust, both of which are released today.
