Star Wars is second only to Disney when it comes to inspiring LEGO® BrickHeadz characters. Now, five more characters from a galaxy far, far away get the BrickHeadz treatment in an upcoming five-pack inspired by the upcoming big screen adventures of The Mandalorian and Grogu. As the first Star Wars film to be released in cinemas since Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Mandalorian and Grogu will feature several new and existing characters, some of which appear in this set. The Allies and Villains pack includes three standard-sized BrickHeadz and two smaller versions; two of the characters have previously featured in a BrickHeadz set. But what does this new pack have to offer? Here’s an early look at the Mandalorian & Grogu: Allies and Villains BrickHeadz set.

BrickHeadz have offered unique takes on various iconic characters since 2016. Ten years on, they continue to adhere to a base design which portrays characters as cubic figures, unique BrickHeadz eyes, a hidden ‘brain’ and a baseplate. Of course, there are slight tweaks to these features depending on the characters the BrickHeadz are inspired by. The set features five characters.
The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian has previously been featured as a BrickHeadz character in 2020. But Din Djarin’s appearance has changed very little since the bounty hunter debuted on Disney+ in 2019. However, as The Mandalorian’s adventures have continued, his armour has been upgraded. So this latest take on the character is similar to the 2020 version but with plenty of differences to warrant a return. The design of both this and the 2020 version is very similar, with the main differences being the colours used on Mando’s body, including a printed piece to show the Mud horn signet. The different colouring represents the upgraded armour gained by Din as he completes bounties and links up with hidden Mandalorian factions. He’s also sporting a jet pack, which is connected to the back of the character.
Grogu
Similar to The Mandalorian, Grogu has also been previously portrayed in BrickHeadz form in the same 2020 set. That was back when the Force-sensitive youngling simply known as The Child. This time around, Grogu ditches his hover pram but gains a plate of Beskar armour. This is shown on a printed plate used on Grogu’s tiny body. Just like Mando, this features the Mudhorn signet on Grogu’s miniature armour. The rest of the character is identical to the 2020 version, but he does gain some tasty blue space biscuits.
Colonel Ward
Colonel Ward is a new character, played by Sigourney Weaver. She was previously an X-Wing pilot and is now part of the New Republic command. Of the five characters featured in this set, this is the most traditional in terms of appearance. Her hair detail is impressive, though there’s an unfortunate gap under the front section. I like the way Ward’s Rebel uniform has been achieved, especially the printed piece used on one of the arms. I’m not sure if the red 1×1 tile on the front of the jacket should have also been a printed piece to look more like a rank bar. Despite being a rather plain character compared to the others in the set, it’s still a fun build.
Imperial Remnant Trooper
The Mandalorian takes place after the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. Although the Empire was defeated, pockets of Imperial remain, some of which have already shown themselves during the Disney+ series. It appears they will also be around during the upcoming film. The Imperial Remnant Trooper appears to be a variation of a Snowtrooper. Like many of the remaining Imps, their armour is cobbled together with random pieces, so the usual face covering of the Snowtrooper is replaced with a breather device. The BrickHeadz figure uses a lot of interesting pieces, including a couple of printed plates and some of the new triangular 1×1 slopes. Although it lacks the usual BrickHeadz eyes, it still feels like a BrickHeadz character, and it’s also one of the most detailed of the five characters.
Anzellan
We first meet the Anzellans in The Last Jedi, and the world instantly fell in love with Babu Frik. The master engineers returned in The Mandalorian series, and they will also feature in the upcoming big-screen adventure. The Anzellans are a small species, and the BrickHeadz is one of the smaller style figures. This features some great little details, such as the tiny chin hairs, created from a minifigure claw, and its magnifying mono-lens tool.
I’ve always been a fan of BrickHeadz, and it’s great to see that sets continue to be released. Despite two of the characters featured in this set already appearing as BrickHeadz before, they are different enough to get a second version, and the additional characters offer something new. The LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian & Grogu: Allies and Villains BrickHeadz set will be available from LEGO retail channels from April 26th.
