Earlier this year, the LEGO Group announced its latest brand partnership with well-known footwear maker Crocs. The first product from the partnership raised eyebrows due to its high cost and impracticality. Despite that, the LEGO® Brick Clogs sold out surprisingly quickly. Thankfully, the second LEGO x Crocs drop is a little less costly and certainly more practical, but still manages to impart a little LEGO magic. The latest range of Crocs LEGO products includes several pairs of clogs plus numerous LEGO-themed Jibbitz. Here’s a closer look at a pair of the Masterbrand Creativity Clogs, which include a selection of Jibbitz and a Crocs minifigure.
Crocs began life in 2002 and has gone on to become a unique piece of footwear favoured for its comfort. The base version of Crocs is a variation on the classic clog. Instead of being carved from wood, Crocs Clogs are made from a foam resin called Croslite. This unique material is what makes Crocs so comfy to wear. The base Crocs clog forms the basis of the LEGO Creativity Clogs. The LEGO flair comes from the edge, which runs around the sole of the footwear. For the Creativity Clogs, this is made up from various upscaled LEGO plates in primary colours. These colours are often used for generic LEGO items, and they brightly contrast with the black of the rest of the clog. Other connections to the LEGO brand are a LEGO logo and an upscaled 2×2 round plate on the heel strap.
The Masterbrand variant of the clog includes 12 Jibbitz. These are charms which have become a big part of Crocs fandom. Jibbitz can be pushed through the hole vents on the body of the clog. The ones included here are styled after various LEGO plates, including a couple of 1×1, 2×2, 1×2 and 2x2x1 ‘L’ plates. These are not 1:1 and are around 50% bigger than standard elements, so don’t expect to be able to build upon them. The LEGO Jibbitz can be easily removed by pushing them from inside the clog
Each pair of LEGO Crocs also includes a unique LEGO minifigure. The pack features a classic minifigure along with four different coloured pairs of ‘clogs’ for it to wear. It’s a fairly basic item, but it’s a nice addition to go along with the footwear.
Like other recent LEGO-branded wearables, the LEGO Crocs aren’t cheap. But they are fun and very comfortable to wear. The Jibbitz add an extra layer of uniqueness and can be easily removed and mixed with others from the range. In fact, the ‘Masterbrand’ version of the Creativity Clogs is the best value as a pack of 12 additional Jibbitz is priced at almost £40/$40/40€. The full range of LEGO Crocs clogs, in both adult and kids sizes, along with LEGO Jibbitz, is available now from LEGO.com, Crocs stores and selected footwear retailers.
