76332: The Batman Batmobile Set Review

The third vehicle in the LEGO® Batman Legendary Batmobile Collection is the most recent to be introduced. After the ‘Snyderverse’ DC Comics films and before the reset, which introduced the DC Universe, we got a standalone Batman film, simply titled The Batman. The 2022 film continued the gritty, real-world feel of the Nolan films but introduced a new, younger Batman. That real-world setting also influenced the design of the film’s Batmobile. The design of The Batman’s Batmobile was based on an American muscle car, but still includes a few ‘bat-flares’, such as its weaponry, flame-shooting rear engine and a hint of batwings on the car’s rear wings. Similar to the BvS Batmobile, The Batman’s Batmobile has previously inspired a LEGO set, but here’s a look at the new version.

The Batman’s Batmobile may lack some of the fun of its predecessors, but it’s still a cool-looking car. It also stars in arguably the best car chase in any Batman film. The muscle car angle gives this Batmobile a heaviness that most others lack. But that doesn’t necessarily result in a great LEGO set. It certainly improves upon the 2022 version. This is partly due to the use of newer elements, such as the triangular slopes used on the rear wings. But also how the set is built. The best example of this is the front bumper. This is slightly set at a downward angle but is neatly integrated into the front section of the vehicle once the surrounding elements are added.

Once again, comparing this newer version to the 2022 one, I think it does a better job of incorporating the rear engine. This is probably the set’s most ‘Batman-esque’ aspect of the Batmobile. The use of parts and how they are combined looks great. The set also has a nice balance between SNOT surfaces and still shows a couple of studs to remind you this is a LEGO model. Although the panel on the bonnet looks a little better than the 2022 version, it would have looked much better if the gaps on either side of it were filled with a 1×4 flat tile.

Sticking with the realistic tone of the film, The Batman’s batsuit is mostly constructed from pieces of real tactical equipment. But still paired with a bat cowl and cape. As with the most recent takes on Batman, the minifigure uses the newer style bat cowl element, but this minifigure’s strength comes from the print detail on the torso and legs. The suit seems a little darker than it appears here, but it is, in fact, mostly grey. Although the new cowl hood does away with the need to include the white band for the white-out eyes, it’s a shame that the black eye shadow wasn’t included on the head.

It’s another great LEGO Batmobile, and one which represents a different era for the character. Although it’s technically a ‘remake’ of a more recently released set, it definitely improves upon the 2022 version in almost all aspects of the vehicle. The grounded feel of the film resulted in both the Batmobile and Batman’s Batsuit not being as fanciful as other takes on the character and the world he inhabits. Which can equal a less exciting vehicle, but of the various Batmobiles, this is just as interesting. The set will be available from March 1st and can be pre-ordered now.
