Joining the upcoming microscale AT-AT will be a true addition to the Starship Collection in the form of the Clone Wars-era Venator-Class Attack Cruiser. The predecessor to the Imperial Star Destroyers was first featured in Revenge of the Sith, along with countless episodes of the animated Clone Wars series. Here, the Republic Command coordinates Clone forces in battle against the Droid Army. Similar to the Imperial Walker, this is another Star Wars vehicle which has recently been featured in the Ultimate Collector Series range. This time it’s much, much smaller and certainly easier to display. Here’s a closer look at the miniature version of the Venator-Class Attack Cruiser.

The set begins with the central core of the ship. This becomes the anchor point for the ship’s large, sloping body. This is achieved by four separate fins, which are slotted onto the central section. These are only secured by a couple of connection points, and the only thing which binds them together is a rubber connector. But this is enough to add stability to the build. Once the additional sections are added, such as the strips featuring a sword and blaster, they provide additional stability and cover the gaps between the upper and lower parts of the ship.
Unlike the ships used by the Imperial Navy, the Clone Wars-era ones were a little more ‘colourful’. The masses of grey are broken up by flashes of dark red. The set includes several printed elements which add extra detail to the ship, the most interesting of these being the triangular elements features strips. There are also a couple of Easter Eggs hidden within the build. In the core of the ship are a couple of stacks of 1×1 studs to represent a Clone Trooper and a Republic Officer. There’s a slight error related to these in the instructions, which refers to the officer as being Imperial. This will be corrected in future versions of the set. There’s also a pair of tiles found in the nose of the ship that represent Anakin and Obi-Wan’s Jedi ships.
As with all previous Starship Collection sets, the Attack Cruiser is displayed on an accompanying display stand. The design of this is similar to other sets and is built separately from the ship. The two are married together by a couple of Technic pins, with the addition of a ball joint to add a little extra stability. Although the set doesn’t include any minifigures, there are two grille elements featured on the base of the stand, which could be popped off to provide a perch for you to add your own minifigures if you wish. I don’t know if this was intended, but it’s the perfect spot to add a character or two. The printed plate mounted on the stand finishes off the set and provides uniformity with other sets in the collection, as well as the wider displayable LEGO Star Wars sets.
It’s an interesting build, especially as partway through it feels as if it’s going to look unfinished and unstable. This is due to the large plates added to the central section of the ship by a singular connection point. However, by the time the set is complete, it’s surprisingly stable, and the gaps are neatly hidden. Of all the ‘Imperial-style’ ships in the Starship Collection, this is the most interesting to look at and build.
