Despite there being hundreds of LEGO® sets inspired by Disney properties, they mostly focus on a handful of popular characters. This changed a little this year with sets inspired by a true Disney classic, 101 Dalmatians. So if 2025 was the year of the Disney dogs, next year appears to be for the cats. Released in 1970, The Aristocats is one of the final animated features to be worked on by both Walt and Roy Disney, along with music from the Sherman Brothers. The film tells the story of a family of pampered cats who live in Paris. They are soon abandoned in the French countryside, where they cross paths with a gang of feral cats, led by Thomas O’Malley, the alley cat. This upcoming new LEGO Disney set transforms the adorable mini diva Marie into a buildable LEGO model. But is the set pickin’ up on that feline beat? Here’s an early look at set 43286: The Aristocats Adorable Marie.

Before building Marie, you need to construct a few little items to help cater for her pampered lifestyle. The minibuild accessories include a hairbrush, a cat toy and a fish, which can be stored in a fun little spherical box. These provide a little extra play option as well as expand the displayable aspect of the set.
Marie is a fluffy white kitten, a texture which isn’t easily replicated with LEGO bricks. But the layering and use of certain pieces help a little to achieve the infant cat’s pampered coat. Marie’s legs are all built separately, but it’s only the front left leg which has any sort of articulation. Being able to move the lone leg offers minimal posing options, but it’s a fun feature to have.
The best part of the set is Marie’s head. This is mounted on a ball joint, so it can be posed in different ways. It also includes a number of printed pieces. The elements used around the face area included two printed curved plates featuring Marie’s blue eyes, two sloped bricks with her whiskers and a 1×2 plate for her mouth. As such, prominent parts of the character, I’m glad these are printed and not stickers.
Marie’s look is finished with another unique piece. Despite some of her smaller bows being brick-built, the large one found on the back of her collar is a large material piece. This is connected to a ball joint behind the cat’s head. I must say it looks great, and a brick-built version would look anywhere near as good. The only downside is the dark grey ball joint connector peeking through the bright pink material. Maybe one day the various Technic connectors and other parts only made in a single colour will get some recoloured variants.
I’m glad to see the Disney range seeking inspiration from beyond Frozen, The Little Mermaid and a handful of other Disney Princesses. Of all the Aristocats characters, Marie is a good choice for the scale of build. Although it has a few accessories and limited moving parts, it’s probably better suited for display than play. The Aristocats Adorable Marie set will be released in the New Year and can be pre-ordered now.
