Since its introduction in 2024, the LEGO® Animal Crossing theme has provided several sets to help recreate your own real-world, brick-built island. Earlier this year, a trio of new sets joined the line-up, providing new villager minifigures and buildings. But how do these new sets compare to the Animal Crossing games?
77076: Blather’s Museum Collection
Along with Nook’s Cranny, the Able Sisters Tailor Shop, the Airport and the Town Hall, one key location on all Animal Crossing islands is the Museum. This is run by Blathers and has appeared in every one of the main Animal Crossing games. The Museum acts as an important aspect of the Animal Crossing gameplay. Players can dig up fossils, collect insects and catch fish, which can all be donated to the museum. Here they are put on display. As curator of the museum, Blathers can also evaluate artwork purchased from a shady Fox called Redd. If legit, they are placed on display in the museum.
Like all buildings in Animal Crossing, they are far bigger inside than they appear outside, so the LEGO versions take some artistic licence. The main museum building can be opened out, with the main entrance flanked by two fold-out walls. When displayed in this configuration, the exterior looks very much like it does in the game. It also offers the ability to fold the walls together to create an enclosed building, but it looks better opened out.
Inside the museum are various nods to the game. These aren’t directly lifted from the game, however clearly show connections to the activities focused around the museum. So there’s a small aquarium. A display case featuring a frog, a scorpion and a fountain surrounded by a butterfly. The museum lacks Brewster’s coffee shop, The Roost, but does include a coffee machine.
In addition to the museum, the set includes two additional pieces of scenery, which are also tied to the activities players undertake to help fill the museum. One is a platform, featuring an orange tree and a stand of tools. This features a magnifying glass to help track down bugs, a net to capture them, a fishing rod and a shovel. Hidden within the raised platform is a bone which can be used to complete the dinosaur skeleton features on the other piece of scenery.
The dinosaur skeleton is based on a Triceratops. As mentioned, it can be completed by the tailbone buried in the ground. Like all the displays found in the set, they are all accompanied by a 1×2 printed tile to represent the exhibit’s information plaque.
Blathers is one of Animal Crossing’s main characters, along with the likes of Tom Nook, Isabella and such. His sister, Celeste, has already appeared in a set, and the same head mould is used for Blathers. It’s a shame, the torso doesn’t include winged arms, as they would be perfect instead of standard arms. His legs would have been better in yellow. Apart from those issues, it’s a good representation of the character.
Lily has appeared in all of the games and is the first amphibious resident to appear across the Animal Crossing sets. This uses a new head mould. She’s wearing the Icy Shirt, which looks like a dress when worn by Animal Crossing characters.
77057: Creative Houses: Seasons of Fun
The seasons play a key role in the Animal Crossing games. They bring different events for players to take part in, along with different critters to capture. They also see the island’s foliage change. Various fruit-bearing trees have appeared in other sets. With this set, all four seasons are represented on four different trees. For Spring, there’s a pink-blossoming tree. Summer is represented by a fruiting pear tree. Autumn (or fall) has an orange-leafed tree, and Winter is shown by a snow-tipped pine tree, complete with an accompanying snowman.
Along with the trees, the set includes two houses. In terms of size, both houses are similar to Isabelle’s from set 77049. They appear to represent the homes of Stitches and Fuchsia as they have a similar appearance. More so for Stitches’ home, which is almost a replica of the in-game version.
Where things deviate from the game is the ability to stack both houses to create a two-storey building. To do this, you can remove the roof from the yellow house and the doorway from the pink house, which is replaced by a section of wall. The pink house can then be placed on top of the other house. Although you can expand your home in the games, the exterior appearance does drastically change.
The set also includes three sets of furniture. They are loosely based on popular sets found in the games. They include the colourful ‘Kiddes’ furniture. Love-themed ‘Cute’ furniture and the classical ‘Antique’ series. The idea is that three characters featured in the set can move home and bring their favourite furniture items. Which can handily be transported on a small trolley.
In comparison to some of the characters featured in the Animal Crossing sets, Stitches is a newish resident. The colourful bear debuted in the Nintendo DS game, Animal Crossing: Wild World and has appeared in every game since. Fuchsia the fawn first appeared in the 3DS game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Her character is shown wearing a zig-zag print dress, which doesn’t really translate to her minifigure. This is an issue many of the Animals Crossing minifigures have.
Fang is another OG character who has appeared in every single Animal Crossing game, including the Japanese-only ‘Animal Forest’ game for the N64. He’s sporting the Snowy Sweater from New Horizons. Fang is one of the best-looking minifigures to appear in the Animal Crossing sets.
77058: Goldie’s Cosy House
Goldie’s Cosy House is the smallest of the new Animal Crossing set, and it offers the best example of the game’s basic house. In terms of how it compares to Goldie’s home, as it is shown in the games, there are some slight differences. The LEGO version is a little smaller and lacks the front window. It’s also coloured differently with a red roof in place of a yellow one and the door being red. Due to the small scale of Goldie’s home, the interior detail is limited to just a bed and a piano. Overall, Goldie’s LEGO house is very much based on the New Horizon version. Like other LEGO Animal Crossing sets, they often feature additional pieces of scenery. Here they include a postbox, which is used at players’ homes to deliver messages, deliveries of furniture and money demands from a certain raccoon. There’s also a picnic bench; both of these additions can be connected to the house along with other Animals Crossing sets.
Goldie is an OG of Animal Crossing characters, appearing in every one of the Animal Crossing games. From Wild World onwards, Goldie has sported a dabber shirt, which is the same outfit her minifigure wears.
