Today is Stranger Things Day, which marks to moment back in 1983, when Will Byers goes missing and the town of Hawkins is forever changed. In the real world a time to celebrate the hit Netflix series when it concludes over the couple of months. But whilst the original Stranger Things series is ending, new stories from Hawkins will be explored through spin-offs such as the animated series, Tales From ’85. Stranger Things has also inspired several LEGO® products. So as today celebrates the Netflix series, it’s an ideal time to take A Look At LEGO… Stranger Things.
The Stranger Things LEGO story began in 2019 with a large-scale model of the Byers House and its spooky Upside Down counterpart. The set offered a unique way to portray both elements of the home, Will, Jonathan and Joyce. As well as showing both realms of the house, the set also included iconic features such as the Christmas lights used by Will to communicate from the Upside Down. It also features 8 minifigures, including a Demogorgon. Interesting face about the monstrous demon from the Upside Down. It used a new element to replicate the creature’s head. The same elements were reused as a young bud on the Botanicals’ Orchid set.
For the release of the Upside Down set, an elaborate launch event was held in London and New York. Attendees to the event were able to make and take home a brick-built version of Will Byers’ woodland den, known as Castle Byers.
In 2019, LEGO BrickHeadz took a trip to the upside down with a double character pack featuring BrickHeadz versions of Eleven and a Demogorgon. Eleven’s BrickHeadz appearance was based on her season 1 look.
Before the LEGO Group abandoned event-exclusive products, which were almost exclusively available in North America, it would offer unique items at Comic-Con events. For San Diego Comic-Con 2019, one of the exclusive event minifigures was inspired by Stranger Things. Beloved character Barb, who meets an unfortunate end in the first series of Stranger Things, was turned into an exclusive minifigure. Due to its limited availability, it’s one of the most sought-after and valuable Stranger Things items.
Thanks to the partnership with Epic Games and the various LEGO experiences found within the popular it’s live service game, LEGO Stranger Things minifigures have appeared in Fortnite. Both Chief Hopper and Eleven have LEGO Styles, although, despite a Demogorgon being a playable character and a minifigure, it doesn’t include a LEGO Style.
This year saw a surprise return of LEGO Stranger Things with a new LEGO BrickHeadz set featuring four characters from the series. The pack includes Will, Mike, Dustin and Lloyd. Thing brings the total number of characters to be recreated in BrickHeadz form to six.
Rumours suggest the recently released BrickHeadz set isn’t the last we’ve seen of LEGO Stranger Things. A second playset type could be released in early 2026. With news that Stranger Things is set to continue beyond the current show, we could see even more LEGO Stranger Things in the future.
