The concept of buildable characters is new, but upscaled minifigures have been a fairly recent addition. The upscaled minifigures began with a pair of Harry Potter characters before a pirate-themed LEGO House set, a generic minifigure and most recently a race car driver. The latest upscaled minifigure is part of the 2025 Christmas line-up and transformed Santa into a bigger, displayable ‘up-scaled’ minifigure. Here’s a closer look at this upcoming new set.

Since this style of larger, buildable minifigures was introduced in 2021, the core build has become the base for future sets. This includes features similar to the standard minifigures. So Santa has movable legs, arms and hands. The only point of articulation which doesn’t translate to this particular figure is the head. Due to Santa’s beard, the head is fixed. An unfortunate compromise to include Santa’s bushy whiskers.
Many of Santa’s features are achieved with coloured elements, but two unique pieces are needed to fully capture the character’s festive appearance. These include a 4×6 curved bow plate, which includes print detail. The face decal matches that of the most recent version of the Santa minifigures. The front area of the minifigure includes a 6×5 printed panel. This includes the same print detail as the minifigure. There’s a slight variation in the colour compared to the surrounding elements. But at least white doesn’t appear pink, like it often does when printed on a red surface. Unfortunately, my set’s panel includes a scuff mark on the white section. This is due to the panel being loose with other elements.
Other Up-Scaled minifigures have included fun details within them. Santa is no different. As you build the head section, you’ll notice a festive Easter Egg within it. I’ll leave it as a surprise to discover, should you choose to pick up the set for yourself. However, it becomes hidden once the head is built and the Santa hat is in place.
I love the concept of larger, brick-built minifigures. They are fun to build, and their design does an impressive job of matching their smaller muses. Santa is a key component of Christmas, making him the ideal candidate to form part of your LEGO-themed festive celebrations. Despite the unfortunate scuff mark on the printed panel, it’s one of the most interesting of this year’s Christmas sets. The Up-Scaled Santa minifigures will be available from LEGO stores and online from October 1st. A Gingerbread AT-AT, Snowman ornaments and a Gingerbread House join it. Please note that the Santa minifigure is not included in the set.
