This year marks the 25th anniversary of the LEGO® factory in Kladno. The Czech Republic facility is a major part of the LEGO supply chain, creating elements and minifigures to appear in millions of LEGO sets. But the Kladno team are famous for an important aspect of LEGO creativity, as it’s where many of the amazing LEGO Big Builds are designed and built. Almost all of the large-scale LEGO creations are built at Kladno, such as the life-sized Formula One cars driven in Miami earlier this year. To mark their latest milestone, a two-metre-high replica of the medieval Czech royal crown, crafted from 128,333 LEGO bricks, has been created. Happy 25 years to Klando crew.
25 years of creativity at the LEGO® Kladno Factory
In 2025, the LEGO® Kladno factory in Czechia celebrates 25 years of bringing the joy of LEGO play to children across Europe and beyond.
Since opening in 2000, the 124,000 m² site has become a cornerstone for the LEGO Group’s region-based supply chain network, enabling the agility to share play faster and wider so even more children can unleash their creativity.

The factory is a hive of innovation and creativity, where packing and processing facilities come together, alongside the world-renowned Model Production team. This talented group of engineers, artists and designers transform LEGO bricks into wonders of scale and imagination – from towering structures in LEGO Brand retail stores to the life-sized F1 cars that raced onto the world stage at the Miami Grand Prix.
25 years of people and progress
When the factory was inaugurated in 2000, it had 80 employees, yet as demand for LEGO products has grown, so too has the factory and its capacity. Today, more than 3,300 colleagues power the site, which has proudly received the Randstad “Best Employer” award for three consecutive years from 2023 through 2025. The factory is now in Randstad’s Hall of Fame, signifying it’s long-term achievement in employee satisfaction and employer branding.
Colleagues span generations – some entire families work side by side, and a few have even been part of the factory since day one. The Kladno factory is also a place where people from all over the world can meet, with employees from 30 different nationalities working together.
The Kladno factory has proudly led the way in sustainable innovation, pioneering initiatives pivotal to the company’s sustainability agenda. It was the first LEGO factory to start the transition to paper-based pre-pack bags. In 2019, more than 3,500 solar panels were installed on the roof of the factory and a further expansion has since more than doubled its renewable energy generation, strengthening the site’s renewable energy capacity.
Kladno’s expertise in packing and packaging has also set the benchmark across the LEGO Group, from shopfloor set-up and process optimisation to employee training, with many colleagues from Kladno supporting new teams at the newly created LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, sharing their skills and experience.
Bringing play to the local community
Beyond the creation of LEGO bricks, the Kladno team is passionate about sharing the joy of play with the community.
Summer camps for employees’ children spark imagination and teamwork. While the site also champions social responsibility initiatives that inspire and support local communities, reflecting the LEGO Group’s commitment to learning through play. This has included long-term partnerships with local children’s homes and collaborations with organisations to positively impact disadvantaged children throughout the Czech Republic.
That same spirit of creativity powers the Model Production team, whose spectacular creations showcase the boundless possibilities of the LEGO brick. With a new dedicated hall completed in 2022 to create more space, their work continues to amaze fans worldwide.
A Royal celebration
To mark the 25th anniversary, the Model Production team showed off their skills at home as they unveiled a spectacular two-metre-high replica of the medieval Czech royal crown, crafted from 128,333 LEGO bricks, on display in Prague’s historical Hradčany Square last week.
Children and families were invited to join “Play Like a King” activities, exploring Czech history through play, building their own crowns or royal minifigures. The initiative was supported by the Danish and Czech ambassadors and the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic.
In 25 years, the Kladno factory has played a significant role as part of the LEGO Group’s supply chain, driving sustainability and building iconic creations that inspire fans worldwide – with many more chapters of creativity still to come.
