This colourful new addition to Heartlake City is packed with some great elements, unique mini-dolls and excellent little builds to create what appears to be one of this year’s best LEGO Friends offerings. Since the LEGO Friends theme was rebooted in 2022, it has continually offered some impressive sets. The latest is themed around a comic book and video game store. This two-storey building is filled with some great details inspired by the geeky world of comics and games, plus a refreshing Slush Ice store next door.
One of the most impressive aspects of the set is the diverse range of accessories. These include several new pieces and plenty of recoloured elements. Many of those accessories can also be used for minifigures, such as the turquoise space helmet and the cardboard robot head. Most of them are dotted around the set as decoration, so the window displays feature hats and helmets, and there are even cosplay weapons on display inside the store.
When gaming, you need to stay hydrated, and you can easily do so by popping next door to the Slushy Shop. This smaller section of the set continues to employ bold colours and a great use of elements to create the smallest details. I love the transparent bricks stacked with the curved-backed headlight bricks to create the perfect slushy machine.
Although not everyone is a fan of mini-dolls, the sets include some pretty cool and unique characters. All four of the mini-dolls are unique to the set, and they are all sporting new outfits. The most exciting of which is Nova’s Classic Space-themed costume. You can also swap out the head decoration for the character’s normal hair pieces.
Stickers play a big role in the set, and surprisingly, despite the heavy use of them, they elevate the set greatly. Stickers are used to bring arcade machines to life, as well as to decorate the exterior. They are mixed well with the elements around them and create a detail-packed area across all three sections of the store.
Fans of fun groups of elements can find two ‘plush toy’ pieces in the set. They include a green alien toy, which takes inspiration from their counterparts from last year’s Classic Space-themed sets. The other is a unicorn-like monster. Both are only found in this set and join other plush toys featured in the Series 23 minifigures, Friends bedroom sets, and the upcoming Family Christmas Tree set.
