One of the largest of the newly released LEGO® Bluey sets is inspired by the family home of everyone’s favourite family of Heelers. As a LEGO 4+ set, it’s filled with unique elements and some impressive printed pieces. It’s also the only LEGO Bluey set to include all four family members. Despite being a seemingly recent phenomenon, Bluey debuted in 2018. The extreme popularity of the animated series has now inspired a series of LEGO 4+ and DUPLO sets. The show follows the adventures of a young Heeler pup called Bluey, along with her family and friends. Many of those adventures take place in the family home, which is the inspiration for this set. It’s built in sections, and this modular nature is one way of making the build experience simpler for younger builders. Each of the sections has its own instruction booklet. This may seem like overkill, but by splitting the set up in this manner, it can be built by more than one person, and it’s easier to dip in and out of the build for those with short attention spans. The first thing to build is a small section of the garden. This simple build features a tree and a BBQ, the staple for all Australian gatherings. There’s also a balloon which can be raised as if it were floating away.
Each of the sections is based on a different part of the house, and they are easily combined to create the entire house. Although in sections, they can’t be configured in different ways. Rooms included a kitchen, a living room, Mum & Dad’s bedroom, a bathroom and the kids’ room at the very top of the house. They are fairly small spaces, but have enough room to recreate scenes from the show. In comparison to the inside of the house, the outside is rather boring. It does have a little detail thanks to the printed panels, but even these are quite simple.
The rooms have basic items of furniture you’ll expect to find in them. Some of them are tied to memorable moments from episodes of Bluey. These complement the unique printed pieces that the LEGO 4+ sets are famed for. The best part of the house is found at the very top. Bluey and Bingo’s room might be small, but it has a colourful wall and two funky beds.
The set includes four minifigures, and this is the only set to feature the whole family, which includes Bluey and her sister Bingo, plus Mum and Dad, Chilli and Bandit. All four characters use the same head piece with only printed detail, the use of different length legs differentiating them. They are used by two other side characters, Chattermax and Jeremy the gnome. These are crafted from printed elements.
As a 4+ set, its target audience is obviously younger builders. But it does include some interesting elements. As well as the Starter Bricks used for the floor and walls of the house, the set also includes several neat printed pieces. These include the wall panels, rugs and a couple of the smaller accessories. Considering the size of the set, its cool printed pieces and having all of the main characters from the show, it’s good value for money compared to some other sets of a similar scale.
