DK Books’ LEGO titles are well-known for their exclusive minifigures. This book features a variant of Emperor Palpatine, who appears in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. In the film, Emperor Palpatine returned somehow and is hanging out on Exegol. This version of the Emperor is kitted out in Sith Eternal robes, which combine his trademark black robes and the red outfit he’s seen wearing as Sheev Palpatine during Revenge of the Sith. The two expressions offer the Emperor’s evil smirk and a surprisingly worried expression. It’s a decent bonus to have with the book and a version of the character, which is unlikely to appear in a set anytime soon.
The book is set out in chronological order of the various eras in which the various Star Wars stories are set. So it begins with the High Republic and concludes with Episode IX. Most of the pages are dedicated to a single character and their ‘Star Variants’ minifigures or connected characters. Each character image is accompanied by a ‘Force Stats’ box, which includes information on which sets they are from and when they were released, as well as which eras they are tied to. Some Minifigures also include additional snippets of information more focused towards their LEGO connections.
The Character Encyclopedias are a great resource for those who collect LEGO Star Wars Minifigures. It gives a concise and easy-to-follow guide to where minifigures have come from and, in some cases, the slight variant or rarer versions. It’s also fun to see how certain characters’ minifigures have evolved. The addition of an exclusive minifigure will be the main appeal of the book for many LEGO fans. I’m not sure that an Emperor Palpatine variant is the most exciting character, but at least it’s a little more desirable than another Darth Maul minifigure. The LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia Updated Edition with Sith Eternal Emperor Palpatine is available now.
