Earlier this year, the LEGO Group announced a long-awaited partnership with smash hit animated series Bluey. The Australian cartoon began in 2018 and has gone on to become a global hit, also airing on the BBC and Disney+. The Bluey LEGO® sets encompass the DUPLO and 4+ themes, which both offer easy-to-build playsets for younger LEGO builders to enjoy. Due to the simple nature of the builds, I won’t be going in-depth in their reviews. Instead, I’ll be simply previewing the playsets, the minifigures and the unique elements used. Kicking things off is a look at the Playground Fun with Bluey and Chole 4+ playset.

If you aren’t familiar with 4+ sets, they are easier to build playsets for younger builders. Along with easy-to-follow and simplified instructions, the 4+ sets are known for their use of unique elements, including ‘starter bricks’ and the abandonment of stickers in favour of fully printed pieces. They often contain unique minifigures as well.
This set features a colourful playground with a slide, see-saw and other play equipment for Bluey and friends to play on. This is built from a mixture of standard pieces and unique elements only found in 4+ sets. There’s also a smaller, separate section which represents a picnic area. The colourful pieces used are a great reflection of the cartoon’s art style.
The Starter Bricks for this set are the large frame panels used on the jungle gym structure. One of these also holds and transparent plates panel featuring print detail of a noughts and crosses game. The slide is also a unique element, but has appeared in other sets.
The set features two minifigures. Bluey, the Australian Heeler dog. This uses the shorter but articulated legs and a unique element for the head. As the star of the show, Bluey is the most common of the theme’s minifigures. Bluey is joined by her best pal Chloe, a Dalmatian pup. Similar to Bluey, Chloe uses the short, movable legs and another unique headpiece. Although the characters are dogs, which often have tails, they are printed on the torsos, instead of being separate elements.
Bluey and her friends are often shown having fun in the local park, and this little playset will allow fans of the show to recreate their favourite moments. Older LEGO fans may find interest in the unique elements and printed pieces. This set and others inspired by Bluey will be available from June 1st.
