Following the reveal of the Disney Classic 101 Dalmatians Puppy set aimed at adults, a second 101 Dalmatians-themed set aimed at younger builders will be joining it. This smaller set features two puppies and a retro TV for them to watch. It’s similar in scale to the smaller version of Simba, which was released alongside the 18+ Simba set last year. It’s a fun way to celebrate classic Disney films whilst also offering builds for different age groups to enjoy. Here’s a closer look at the LEGO Disney Lucky & Penny 101 Dalmatians Puppies set.

Disney’s early slate of animated films used well-known fairy tales and books as inspiration. 101 Dalmatians was based on the novel of the same name by Dodie Smith and introduced the world to Pongo and Perdita. Their litter of 15 puppies soon swells to 101 as multiple dalmatian puppies are rescued from the clutches of evil fashion designer Cruella de Vil. Two of those puppies feature in this smaller LEGO Disney set.
The puppies are built in extremely similar ways, and both their bodies are identical. They are mostly built from white elements, but oddly, brick yellow elements have been used for their under sections. The breed is normally pure white when born, I can only assume the different colour is to make their LEGO builds a little more visually unique. Sticking with the colouring of the pups, they do appear to be lacking spots. But dalmatian pups are born without spots and gain more as they grow. However, the 2×4 plates on their back use a sticker, and it sticks out against the rest of the build.
The heads of the puppies are where the build differs. Lucky has black ears and a closed mouth, whereas Penny has white ears, and her tongue is sticking out mid-pant. Both puppies are also wearing a different coloured collar. This sits around the neck joint of both dogs and is held there once the head is connected.
As well as the two puppies, the set also features a basic bone and a small retro television. The TV uses a plate with a sticker, featuring a scene from the film watched by the puppies in the animated film. It’s a simple build but adds a little more to the set.
The set is not as impressive as the much bigger, 18+ Dalmatian puppy, but it’s aimed at a different audience. The charm of the set is the ability to pose the pups, and that it’s a set which younger builders could build as an adult builds the bigger set.
