It’s normally around this time of the year that we are treated to a new series of LEGO® Minifigures. But we’ll be waiting a little longer for Series 29 to arrive, as we are instead introduced to a new concept inspired by the partnership with Formula 1. Instead of 12 collectible characters, the F1 Collectible Race Cars series features micro recreations of Formula 1 vehicles. The collection includes 12 different cars inspired by the 10 current Formula 1 teams, which include RB20, Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, Alpine, Williams, VCARB, Sauber and Haas. They are joined by a generic F1 car and an F1 ACADEMY car. Here’s a closer look at the full line-up of F1 Collectible Race Cars.

Just like the LEGO Minifigures series, the F1 Race Cars are packaged in small boxes. Although this doesn’t allow you to see or feel which car is inside, the LEGO Group have listened to feedback and included a couple of methods to identify certain characters or, in this case, cars. The first is a QR-style code, once the sets are more widely available, various apps will let you scan them to find out what’s in each box. There are also the ‘stack’ boxes. These contain 12 boxes and should result in a full set of cars. The larger boxes of 36 sets should give you three full sets.
In the box, you’ll find a selection of elements needed to build each car. Every car uses the same sort of elements. The only difference is the colours used. They also include a unique printed 1×2 tile for the spoiler and two different 1×2 bow plates used for the side panels of the car and the front ‘nose’ section. As well as the unique printed pieces, each car also uses a new piece for the front wing, a 1×2 plate with a minifigure head pin and the same style helmets introduced in the F1 Speed Champions sets.
These aren’t as exciting as minifigures are, but they are still interesting. Not to mention a unique way to continue the F1 Collection with another theme. The cars remind me a little of the old Matchbox/Hot Wheels vehicles. Although the build for each car is the same, the different colours to represent each team offer some level of uniqueness. They also feature some interesting pieces, including printed elements.
Because of the similarities with each car, there is little point in describing each one. Most of them are easy enough to identify, although some lack branding for the same reason a couple of the Speed Champions F1 sets carry an 18+ age suggestion.
