75415: Kylo Ren Helmet Set Review

The LEGO® Star Wars Helmet Collection has featured several characters from various eras of the Star Wars saga. Until now, none of them have come from the sequel or the “Disney trilogy”. To mark the 10th anniversary of The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren’s iconic helmet has joined the range of displayable sets based on the headwear of popular Star Wars characters. Following a look at Jango Fett’s Helmet, here’s what Kylo Ren’s Helmet has to offer.

We are first introduced to Kylo Ren during the opening moments of The Force Awakens. As the First Order descended on a small village, their Stormtroopers were joined by a masked Force wielder who we later find out is Kylo Ren. Before being seduced by the Dark Side, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa was known as Ben Solo, and his helmet is inspired by the fallen Sith Lord, Darth Vader. The set is inspired by Kylo Ren’s earlier, undamaged helmet.

Kylo Ren’s helmet still includes the display stand, which has been used for each of the previous sets, but it doesn’t form the core of the build. Instead, the helmet is paired with the stand and is kept in place thanks to a Technic rod. It also features the usual printed display plaque.

When a set is largely a single colour, it can feel less detailed and defined, but this set doesn’t suffer from that. This is partly due to the line detail which edges the areas around the helmet’s visor. All of the elements which include this detail are printed, and the overall finish of the set is all the better for it. Especially as the lines need to match up with each other, or they would look odd. One of my favourite sections of the helmet is the visor. It’s neatly set back from the outer shell of the helmet. It gives the helmet its menacing appearance.

As the Disney+ intro to Star Wars content shows, helmets are a major part of Star Wars lore. Some of the most iconic characters from a galaxy far, far away wear a helmet. With the introduction of the sequel trilogy and its many new characters, Kylo Ren is probably the most recognisable and an understandable inclusion in the Helmet Collection. As mentioned, some helmets which are a singular colour can look a little simplistic, but this set doesn’t suffer that fate. I’m glad it has printed elements as they offer a better finish for what is a premium, displayable LEGO model. I wouldn’t say it’s value for money, but it’s certainly one of the better additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection.
