75407: Brick-built Star Wars Logo Review

Star Wars is often credited with reversing the fortunes of the LEGO Group. Over 25 years ago, sets inspired by the new trilogy of Star Wars films were released, and the partnership has flourished ever since. With such a wealth of source material to take inspiration from, the LEGO® Star Wars theme has crafted an impressive array of builds. A galaxy far, far away has inspired playsets, vehicles, buildable figures and wall art, but the latest set to join the line-up is something unique. It’s best described as home decor and transforms one of the most recognisable logos into a buildable display piece. Here’s an early look at the Brick-built Star Wars logo.

As mentioned, the LEGO Star Wars theme has provided fans with an impressive choice of different build experiences. As a Star Wars fan myself, I’d had the privilege of building quite a few of them. But this set is unlike anything else; it’s exactly what the set’s title suggests, a brick-built logo. Since the set’s existence was first rumoured, it appears to have divided fans, and upon its reveal, opinions have been mixed. Having built the set for this review, I must say it offers a surprisingly fun build experience.

The logo is split into two sections, one to create the word ‘star’ and, unsurprisingly, the other to craft the word ‘wars’. Once complete, they are simply paired together. There is a small amount of unusual bricks within the core of the words, including that all-important cake conjuring pink brick*, but they are mostly created by layering black and yellow elements.

In between the yellow lettering of the logo, you’ll notice flashes of greebling. A term often associated with Star Wars sets and describes the use of elements to create a textured surface. It’s a little hard to see in the images, but it does look good. The set also hides a tiny Easter Egg within the top of the ‘S’ and ‘T’. Popping off the plate topping the letters reveal a small Star Destroyer chasing after an equally miniature Tantive IV. They are quite possibly the smallest representative of both ever in LEGO form.

In essence, it’s just a logo, and yes, you can probably pick up a sign similar in scale at a far lower price point, but where’s the fun in that? It also lacks any minifigures, but in all honesty, it doesn’t need them. To incorporate minifigures, the set would lose much of its charm. The set’s RRP does seem a little too high for what it offers, and despite the set’s appeal, this may put some people off. It’s a fun thing to build, it looks quite cool, but it is a little overpriced. It makes a great companion piece for the Marvel logo set as well as other LEGO Star Wars sets. The Brick-built Star Wars Logo can be pre-ordered now and will be released on May 1st.
