Red Bull is one of the new teams getting the LEGO® treatment thanks to the overall partnership with Formula 1. The Red Bull Racing Team was born from the ashes of Ford’s Jaguar Racing team. Since becoming Red Bull Racing, the team has gone on to become a major player in F1, winning 6 Constructors Championships and 8 Drivers Championships, including Max Verstappen’s win last season. The car he drove to clinch the win has been recreated for one of the 10 LEGO Speed Champions sets based on the 2024 F1 race cars. Here’s a preview of the Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 Race Car.

Red Bull’s RB20 car debuted at the Bahrain Grand Prix and took pole position, giving the team their first podium win of the 2024 season. The same car also took second place in the same race. The LEGO version follows a similar build as the rest of F1 Speed Champions sets but is one of two to carry the 18+ age suggestion, I assume this is due to the connection to the Red Bull energy drink.
As you’ll soon notice with each Speed Champions F1 review, all of the sets use a large amount of stickers. Whilst printed elements are always preferable, the use of stickers on some sections is unavoidable. There is also a surprising amount of pieces which could easily have been printed. Regardless, the graphics dotted around the car are a must for the car to look like its real-world inspiration.
As there are 10 F1 cars to cover, I won’t keep rehashing the same information for each set. Instead, I’ll highlight some of the car’s unique features and interesting details. As mentioned in my review of the Ferrari F1 car, the core build of the set is the same for every F1 car, but some of the details which become the car’s exterior sections can be quite different despite creating a similar shape and appearance.
On the RB20, the area around the driver’s seat is unique. Only the Red Bull cars have a scale plate in front of the driver. This forms a barrier for the Halo bar when lowered towards the car. The angled fin which slopes towards the rear of the car is crafted from two printed elements. Between them is a red ski element, which works nicely for the fin edging. Another interesting use of an element is a yellow window pane which forms part of the car’s inlet.
All of the Speed Champions sets use a couple of interesting new elements. These include wheel brackets for the front tyres and two different pairs of printed red-trimmed P-Zero Pirelli tyres. Plus the car uses a new slope element, which is used for the car’s spoiler.
The driver features in the set is another generic one and is kitted out in a dark blue race suit with the Red Bull logo on the chest of the torso. Although Speed Champions F1 minifigures are void of most of the sponsorship logos, I would have liked to have seen something on the back of the driver’s race suit. It does have another unique helmet. This has been specially created for the F1 sets to better reflect those worn by F1 drivers.
This is another interesting build, despite the similarities of F1 cars, this offered a different experience to the Ferrari car and others I’ve built, which will be reviewed soon. If you are a fan of the Red Bull Race Team, this is a unique piece of merchandise. If you are a Speed Champions fan, it continues with the themes detailed builds and impressive use of the elements. The large amount of stickers can be bothersome, especially on the smaller sections, but they are needed.
