With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 speeding into cinemas today, it’s the perfect time to continue taking a look at the upcoming Sonic LEGO® sets. This next set is the smallest of those being released on January 1st. It only features one minifigure but is also the cheapest way to add the unique speed sphere and launcher to your collection along with Sonic. Here’s a short preview of the Sonic’s Campsite Clash set.

One of the things I like about the LEGO Sonic sets is how they take inspiration from various games. This one is heavily inspired by Sonic Adventure 2, the Dreamcast classic which introduced Shadow the Hedgehog to the Sonic universe. It was also one of the first SEGA games to be released on rival consoles, including the Nintendo GameCube. The link to the game in this set is the G.U.N. robots.
The set features two G.U.N. units and is they look similar to Robotnik’s Badniks, that’s because they were originally designed by Dr Robotnik’s grandfather. Those in this set are based on a G.U.N. Hunter, which is a small humanoid robot. It has plenty of movement thanks to the ball joints on the feet, waist and arms. It also has a small box on its back which can be used to place the Rocky turtle figure. The second G.U.N. unit is much smaller but looks very cool. The G.U.N. Beetle is a small drone-like device. The use of a curved archway element is unusual but gives the drone a unique finish. It’s also mounted on a transparent stand so can be displayed nicely.
There appears to be an ongoing trend in the LEGO Sonic range, featuring random pieces of scenery in which Sonic and friends can chill out and cook. Thankfully this trend continues with the 2025 sets. As the name suggests, the scenery in this particular set is a campfire. This simple section features a small campfire and seat for Sonic to rest on as he toasts marshmallows.
The Sonic sets introduced a play feature known as the speed sphere. This was an attempt to replicate Sonic’s superspeed by pairing a shell-like unit with a launcher that could propel it at speed. The device has only appeared in higher-priced sets, so this is the cheapest way to experience the speed sphere. It’s a genuinely impressive play feature that does capture Sonic’s speedy movement.
As this is a small set, it only includes one minifigure but it is a unique version of Sonic. The minifigure is the same as others in terms of the elements used but the head features a more determined expression from Sonic. The minifigure can also be slotted into the speed sphere.
Overall, although a small set it offers a couple of fun buildable characters with a strong connection to Sonic lore. It also offers an engaging play feature with the speed sphere and although this has probably pushed up the RRP a little, it’s still a cheap enough set, which offers a few unique and fun items. Sonic’s Campsite Clash set will be released on January 1st and can be pre-ordered from selected retailers now.
