Toys R Us UK Crashes Into Administration

The UK arm of toy retailer Toys R Us has entered into administration, putting around 3000 jobs at risk. The retailer has been struggling for a number of months now and had a poor Christmas trading and more recently was hit with a £15 million tax bill. Hopes of finding a buyer for company also fell through in the last few days. Although it’s poor performance had been partly blamed on online competition, the loss of a specialist retailer like will have an effect on LEGO, not will it signal the end of Toys R Us exclusive sets and minibuilds, it will only make finding sets a little harder. Most supermarkets have already stripped back their toy toy offerings and Argos are closing stores in favour of consessions in Sainsbury’s branches. Leaving only Smyths Toys and The Entertainer as toys specific retailers.
