Rumours are a big part of LEGO® fandom, they can offer an insight into future releases but they can also fuel wild speculation. In recent weeks they have been a number of rumours which have gained traction as being fact. However, they have since been confirmed to be untrue. So here’s a couple of rumours which have since been clarified by the LEGO Group via the LEGO Ambassador Network as being untrue.
No More Baseplates
There have been various rumours around the withdrawal of the classic LEGO baseplate. This was fueled by the switch to the new buildable road plate system. However, although it’s likely road marked baseplates may be phased out, the standard baseplates are going nowhere. It was added on LAN: I can still say with confidence after speaking with the Creator and Classic teams (the two teams that use them), the baseplates are still in the product portfolio and no change is planned.
Discontinuing Blank Minifigure Heads
This is an odd one regarding blank elements used for Minifigure heads. They also appear in sets for many other uses such as lamps or pots. A rumour started on Instagram suggested that after someone contacted TLG they were told that blank heads would no longer be offered. This is due companies using them to print on them for custom Minifigures. This has also be quashed with a comment on the LAN adding: We still have a lot of these in all kinds of colours in our internal product inventory will no plans of an early retirement.
501st Clone Troopers Set Retired In APAC
Recently it has been suggested that set 75280: 501st Clone Troopers had been retired in Australia and the surrounding retail region due to poor sales. It has since been confirmed to be a fake rumour with the product merely being currently out of stock. Comment from the LAN adds: The set has not retired in Australia or any other market and, as everyone here is quite aware, it is a very popular and sought after set…. it is only Temporarily Out of Stock.

I believe that was a mix-up. You may have had a US customer service agent response and they technically were correct as the last wave of sets happened been released in the US at that point.
