If you’ve visited a LEGO® store recently, many of them offer a unique experience called Minifigure Factory. This lets you build a character and customise it with unique print details and text. Now the experience has moved online as spotted by Jay’s Brick Blog and is currently in the BETA stages in North America. The online version is similar to the in-store experience, you get to construct a minifigure using a number of different parts. There is a selection of different heads, hair, legs and accessories.
But it’s the torso which offers the greatest level of customisation. You can choose from simple coloured shirts, patterns or designs found on other minifigures, such as a knights tunic or Classic Space logo. You can also add additional graphics again these are inspired by other minifigure designs or the LEGO emoticon series. You can also add text to the torso, this will be moderated by LEGO.com and anything considered unsuitable will not be applied to the custom minifigure. Customisation can be applied to both the front and back of the torso. A single custom minifigure costs $11.99 and is currently limited to 1 per household. This will most likely change once the BETA test is over.
It’s a similar experience to the Build a Minifigure service but with a greater level of customisation. Hopefully, the BETA will roll out to additional countries, but for now, it’s only available in North America. This is so the service can be tested and tweaked ahead of global availability. You can still visit a LEGO store and use the Minifigure Factory there, or use the Build a Minifigure service online as well.
