LEGO Star Wars 2019 Annual Review

A long standing festive tradition is the humble annual, a book filled fun thing to do and read. With Christmas rapidly approaching this years line-up of LEGO® annuals have started to appear in shops. The fun thing about the LEGO annuals are the inclusion of LEGO minifigures. Publishing duties for the LEGO Star Wars annual has shifted to Igloo Books, who have partnered with Ameet Studio to release the 2019 Annual. So let’s take a closer look at the LEGO Star Wars 2019 Annual.

The Book

Annuals certainly aren’t heavy on the old words, instead the book is filled with plenty of fun thing to do. These include puzzles, mazes, spot the difference and general puzzlely thing like that. There’s even a short comic strip popped in there for good measure. All of which is complimented by lovely hand drawn artwork, oddly there are also images of actual sets, dotted around, although it’s not meant to be one of the books puzzles, have fun trying work out, what is a photo and what has been drawn.

If you’re expecting the next War and Peace, you’ll be disappointed, instead you get a book filled with plenty of things to keep younglings busy for a few hours over the festive period. Not to mention a worthy stocking fillers for LEGO Star Wars fans.

The Minifigure

The included minifigure is the know-it-all droid, C-3PO. The character has appeared in numerous LEGO sets, with this version being the most recent incarnation. To be honest it’s not an amazingly exciting minifigure, however of the four sets this version has appeared in, two are of the higher priced Ultimate Collectors Series/Master Builders Series sets. So I guess if you wanted a C-3PO minifigure, then this is a cheaper way of obtaining one.

Overall

Of the three LEGO annuals released this year, the LEGO Star Wars isn;t the most exciting. C-3PO can be found in a number of LEGO sets and unfortunately the RRP for the LEGO Star Wars 2019 annual have jumped up to £9.99. The artwork within the book continues to impress, I really do like to hand drawn illustrations. But as with a number of LEGO books, they are focused squarely at younger fans, although adult fans are often interested in the included LEGO. The combination of a common minifigure and higher priced RRP makes this a less appealing purchase, but if you find it at a lower price, it’s definitely worth picking up a copy.

  1. Found it for £3.49 in Sainsbury’s today – also had a Ninjajo one (white figure) and a Lego annual 2019 one (really cool general purpose young person figure on front with sevearl accesories) + also seen the first of the Igloo Publication lego star wars books that were announced in June (4.99), much like the egemont ones and had a figure of the female character from the Freemaker Chronicles on the front.
