The Books

If you’ve been strolling around your local bookstore or supermarket these last week few you’ll have notice Christmas has slowly been creeping onto shelves and it’s the time of the year when book publishers starting releasing their new titles in the hope they will appeal to gift grabbers. There have been a number of Gift or Activity Tins released in the last few years, based on a number of popular Children’s characters but up until now there hasn’t been any LEGO themed ones.

As mentioned above the LEGO NINJAGO Gift Tin features to previously published Egmont titles but here they appear in a new smaller format. The Hands of Time Activity book, first published in March and the Spot the Samurai-Droid Search & Find book first published in 2015.

The Hands of Time Activity book is filled with the usual stories, comics and activities, with the same hand drawn illustrations which have appeared in other Egmont books. The original book also included a Minifigure which unfortunately isn’t included here.

The Spot the Samurai-Droid book is a little more inventive, and tasks you with finding the Samurai-Droid hidden amongst the various scenes on each page. Think Where’s Wally? but with a NINJAGO twist. Again the cool hand drawn illustrated style is used throughout which make Egmont’s books stand out. Thankfully this does include the LEGO set which was included in the original book. This is actually a cool little build although it’s not very “samurai-y”, still it’s great it has been included.

Overall

These types of books make the perfect gift, although the books themselves are a little disappointing, especially when compared to their original releases. The tin itself is the most impressive aspect of the set, it’s hard to tell from the images but it has a slightly embossed finish, and would be the perfect place to store your loose LEGO bits. It’s a shame the Hands of Time Minifigure, which was included with the activity book is oddly left out of the set but at least the Samurai-Droid is present. The best place to currently find the LEGO NINJAGO Gift Tin is in WHSmith High Street stores where it’s available for just £6.

The LEGO NINJAGO Gift Tin is available now from WHSmith stores, selected book retailers and Amazon UK.

  1. I am thinking of getting this as a Christmas present for my nephew and just wondered why you think the books are disappointing?

    • IT’s merely because they have previously been published in slightly different formats and the ones included don’t include the same elements as the originals. Apart from that its a great little gift, especially if you pick it up at WHSmith. I’m sure your nephew will love it.
