The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the previously announced LEGO spin-off movie, Billion Brick Race is now being developed by Book of Life director Jorge Gutierrez. The movie was originally revealed back in 2015 as an additional title to Warner’s LEGO line-up which included The LEGO Batman Movie, released back in February and the upcoming NINJAGO movie this October along with The LEGO Movie sequel slated for 2019. The Billion Brick Race started as an original idea of Iron Man 3 writer Drew Peace and actor Jason Segel. Although little is known about this potential new LEGO movie, the original pair behind it described the Billion Brick Race as “Modestly, hopefully it will be the biggest race movie of all time, imagine doing a race movie but having the ability to do it with LEGO. So part Cannonball Run, part Wacky Races, but with a real working class Rocky style blue collar vibe to it as well.” With the success of The LEGO Movie back in 2014, it was a given Warner Bros. and the LEGO Group would expand upon that success with additional movies based within the LEGO Cinematic Multiverse.
