LEGO Big Builds: Apollo 11 Astronaut

This may have been lost in the press release earlier today, but as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations surrounding the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon, the LEGO Group have created an impressive new LEGO® Big Build. This brick-built space suit is a replica of the space suit worn by the crew of the Apollo 11 mission. It took a team of 10 designers and LEGO Master Builders nearly 300 hours of designing and building to create this life-size LEGO model of an Apollo 11 lunar module pilot, inspired by the first humans to step on the moon. The model replicates the suits worn on the Moon in 1969, features 10 different colors, and is built from 30,000 LEGO bricks. The model will be unveiled to the public with the help of the visitors to the four-day Apollo 50 Festival celebration, on the National Mall in Washington, DC hosted by the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum between July 18th -20th.
