LEGO At San Diego Comic-Con 2019

San Diego Comic-Con kicks tomorrow and LEGO® will once be there in full force with Big Builds, exclusive giveaways, new set reveals and panels. Over the past few weeks many of these have been revealed. I also have a feeling an animated TV or special based on the Hidden Side could be announced. There may well be a few extra surprises over the event, which begins today and ends on Sunday. Here’s a handy round-up of the various reveals and well as a news of interactive elements to enjoy at the LEGO booth.

LEGO Big Builds

The LEGO Big Builds have a staple of Comic-Con, many of them are connected to various licensed properties from upcoming movies. This years offering includes a Sith Trooper from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. With Batman celebrating 80 years, this will be marked with a life-sized Batman statue and comic book cover mural. Finally Marvel legend, Tony Stark rounds off the Big Builds, with a life-sized Iron Man model, complete with Nano Gauntlet.

Exclusive Sets and Minifigures

Another long-running factor of the LEGO presence at Comic-Con is the much-hated show exclusives. There will be a trio of sets available to purchase at the LEGO booth, these include a LEGO Captain Marvel set, a LEGO Star Wars Sith Trooper bust and a special 80th anniversary Batman set.

For those not at the event there will be a chance to win these Minifigures via the LEGO social media channels.

Panels

There will be a panel focused on upcoming LEGO animations, this will of course cover the upcoming new season of NINJAGO as well as new animated content. As mentioned above I believe we could get word of some sort of animated special or TV series based around the new Hidden Side theme. Comic-Con is also often used to announced various DC Comics or Marvel animated specials.

Saturday 11:15am – 12:15am

Go behind the scenes and get a sneak peek of upcoming LEGO animation. Jason Cosler (LEGO producer) and Robert May (LEGO producer) will be sharing exciting new LEGO animated content and hold a Q&A session moderated by Joshua and John Hanlon (Beyond the Brick).

Sunday 2:15pm – 4:15pm

Batman, Robin, and Batgirl must stick together even when Gotham’s most dangerous villains attempt to pull them apart in LEGO DC: Batman: Family Matters, the latest animated adventure in the LEGO DC series. Witness the World Premiere of this action-packed, brick-tastic adventure that will be followed by a star-studded panel of actors and filmmakers, including the voices of Batman, Batgirl, and Robin—Troy Baker (Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman: Arkham Origins), Alyson Stoner (Phineas and Ferb) and Scott Menville (Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!)—along with Jason Spisak (Young Justice) as Red Hood, Tara Strong (Batman: The Animated Series, Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!) as Batwoman, and Steve Blum (Cowboy Bebop, Star Wars Rebels) as Scarecrow. Filmmakers include producer Rick Morales (LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Haunted Hollywood), director Matt Peters (LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis), and screenwriter Jeremy Adams (LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash)

LEGO Systems Celebrates Fans at Comic-Con International: San Diego

-Company offers free, custom comic book creation experience, larger-than-life LEGO® models of fan-favorite characters, product reveals, a content panel, and show-exclusives-

COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL: SAN DIEGO (July 17, 2019) – LEGO Systems, Inc. highlights classic characters and beloved properties while inviting attendees to imagine new ones at this year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), the world’s largest comic and entertainment convention. Fans can build their own comic book, and custom LEGO minifigure photo stations invite fans to express their LEGO creativity. The company will also showcase new building sets and offer exclusive SDCC retail sets and LEGO minifigure giveaways. LEGO® Master Builders have created three new show-stopping large-scale LEGO brick models of iconic Star Wars™, MARVEL® and DC™ characters that will border the activities at booth #2829 in Hall D at the San Diego Convention Center, July 17-21.

“For years we’ve been helping fans celebrate their passion for the characters, vehicles and worlds of the biggest pop culture and entertainment properties through LEGO bricks and minifigures,” said Amanda Madore, senior brand relations manager, LEGO Systems, Inc. “We’re excited to debut interactive experiences that let Comic-Con attendees further personalize those passions as well as to connect socially with fans around the world who aren’t able to make it to the show floor.”
Two fully interactive and custom in-booth activities allow builders to create their own characters and stories alongside their favorite heroes and familiar locations:

LEGO Comic Creation Stations – Build Your Own Comic
Fans can put themselves in the center of the action of their very own custom comic book! First, fans will create a custom digital minifigure character. Next, they’ll be able to choose a theme for their comic, courtesy of partners at DC, MARVEL and Lucasfilm. Finally, after answering a few questions to help guide the story, fans receive a limited-edition physical comic book, featuring the first appearance of their custom minifigure character.

LEGO Brick Boxes – Capture Custom Minifigure in Brick-Built Dioramas
This new interactive exhibit is designed through the eyes of the LEGO minifigure. Attendees can build a custom minifigure and capture custom content in a series of 18 minifigure sized brick-built art installations created by various LEGO artists, featuring both familiar and new fantasy worlds – including Star Wars, DC, MARVEL and more.

The company will offer sneak peeks of never-before-seen products, show-exclusive building sets, minifigure giveaways, and large-scale models.

DC™: LEGO® BATMAN™
Celebrating the 80th anniversary of Batman, a 3D brick-built Detective Comics #1000 variant comic book cover and life-size Batman will stand six-and-a-half feet tall at the LEGO booth. Made of 44,051 bricks, the model took LEGO Master Builders 270 hours to design and build. An exclusive collectible building set featuring the iconic hero in a diorama of Gotham City, complete with Bat-Signal, will be available for purchase exclusively for select attendees who registered on Comic-Con’s Exclusives Portal prior to the show. Additionally, a show-exclusive LEGO minifigure of Zebra Batman will be given away to lucky attendees during a giveaway on July 20.

MARVEL™: LEGO® Avengers
A life-size LEGO model of Iron Man wearing the gauntlet, as he appears in Avengers: Endgame, will debut. The 35,119-brick model is six-and-a-half-feet tall and took LEGO Master Builders 255 hours to design and build. Fans will get a sneak peek of a new building set – Avengers Hulk Helicopter Drop ($59.99) before it is available in stores November 25.

Inspired by her breakout film earlier this year, Captain Marvel™ and the Asis come to brick form in a limited-edition building set which will be exclusively sold at Comic-Con to select attendees who were chosen after registering on Comic-Con’s Exclusives Portal prior to the show.

MARVEL™: LEGO® Spider-Man™
Spider-Man™ in his Advanced Suit, as he appears in the popular PS4 video game Marvel’s Spider-Man, gets the LEGO minifigure treatment and will be given away exclusively to lucky fans on July 18.

LEGO® Star Wars™
LEGO Star Wars is celebrating 20 years since the property debuted with LEGO by showcasing classic and upcoming elements of the saga in brick-form at SDCC. With anticipation for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker building, a life-size LEGO look at an upcoming character from the film – a Sith trooper™ –will be displayed at the LEGO booth. LEGO Master Builders used 34,307 bricks and spent 259 hours designing and building the six-foot-two model. Attendees can take a piece of the dark side home with a show-exclusive collectible LEGO Star Wars Sith Trooper Bust building set, available for purchase for select attendees who register on Comic-Con’s Exclusives Portal in advance of the Con.

A disturbance in the Force has also allowed two never-before-seen LEGO Star Wars sets, Obi-Wan’s Hut and Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder™, based on iconic scenes from Star Wars: A New Hope, to be displayed in the LEGO booth, long before they become available in January 2020 for $29.99 each.

LEGO® Overwatch®
New heroes arrive in two new LEGO Overwatch sets, Wrecking Ball ($19.99), piloted by fan favorite Hammond the hamster, and Junkrat & Roadhog ($49.99), inspired by the Junkertown map, which will be seen for the first time at the Blizzard Entertainment booth (#140) at San Diego Comic-Con before they are available in October this year.
