Game of Bricks Treehouse Light Kit Review

A few months ago, I was sent a light kit for the Stranger Things Upside Down set by Game of Bricks. Now they have sent me the light kit for the LEGO® Ideas Treehouse set. Now this set is a little more advanced than the first one I tackled. The light kit consists of a number of small bags, which contain all the things you need to bring a little light to the Treehouse. Theses include small strip lights, tiny lights which can sit inside elements and the various connectors needed to complete the circuit and add power. Plus there is a remote to allow you to control the whole thing remotely.

Now to install the lighting elements you’ll need to take the fully built set apart in places. There isn’t much to be stripped down but you will have to take branches off, remove rooms and the canopy of leaves in order to add all the various pieces from the kit. The kit does not actually come with instructions instead Game of Bricks will provide a link to an instructional video, which gives a visual guide to placing the kit onto the set. I was advised to watch it at a slower speed and I can see why, there is a lot going on so it can be a little overwhelming.

The final result looks very cool, thankfully the wires are quite small so they aren’t overly visual and many of the lighting pieces are well hidden, either inside elements or stuck the under of sections. The lights in the leaves are the most visual but they would be if they were real lights in a real tree. It’s a tricky thing to take pictures of as you can’t really see them in the light and you can’t get a true sense of the effect in the dark.

I did have a couple of issues, the connection junctions, where various lights or extension wires are plugged in, are very tiny and one of the side snapped, rendering it unusable and one of the light strip had one light out. But I’m sure Game of Bricks would happily rectify that. It definitely are task to install the kit and some elements of it are a little fiddly but the result it worth the effort. The option to power the lights directly from a power source with the USB connector or via the included battery box is very useful and the remote makes it even more fun interact with. Kit reviewed is the Deluxe version of the LEGO Tree House Light Kit, you can find out more about it here.
