At The LEGO Movie 2 Gala Screening

On an extremely chilly Saturday morning I made the long journey from a Leicester to London, via Rugby to attend the UK Gala screening of The LEGO® Movie 2, at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square. Which is a mere stones throw away from the LEGO store. The red carpet was rolled out, once inside the cinema there were numerous things to do, such as playing the upcoming video game based on the film, face painting and copious amounts of things to eat, including a seemingly endless amount of egg salad rolls. But the best of the nibbles were these iced characters biscuits and some too cute to eat, Star and Heart cakepops.

To be honest it was heaving in the foyer area, so it was a little tricky to really take much in, as I mingled with celebrity guests and more impressively a number of members from the LEGO Design Team, who had popped over from Billund. It was soon time to be seated and to my amazement it was be shown on an IMAX screen and boy are those things huge!

As for the movie, I won’t be revealing any spoilers for it, but I can say it just as good as the original. There are plenty of in-jokes, many of which are aimed at LEGO fans. Thankfully despite the numerous trailers and clips released online, much of the movie’s funniest moments are saved for the actual movie. There is a particular vest-themed cameo which is really surprising and funny. Also look out for a number of time-based surprises. Despite my initial competent for the Catchy Song not being as good as Everything Is Awesome, I love the song and it is used to great effect within the story of the film. There are definitely a lot more musical numbers this time around, with The Lonely Island’s End Credit song are particular highlight. All in all The LEGO Movie 2 connects well with the first movie and manages to build upon the fun of the LEGO brand along with its long and varied history. It also manages to cram in enough gags to delight kids, whilst also adding in a few aimed at adults. Making The LEGO Movie 2 another colourful fun-filled family adventure, that will genuinely tug at a ‘piece’ of your heart.

Thanks to Warner Bros. UK for inviting us along to the UK Gala Screening of The LEGO Movie 2. The movie opens across the UK, US and Europe on February 8th. Tickets are available now from most major cinema chains.
