All this week BricksFanz is celebrating the magic of LEGO® Disney and today it’s a round-up of the Top Ten LEGO Disney sets. The LEGO Group and Disney have had a long relationship, one which in fact began long before the LEGO brick even existed. Although there is a LEGO Disney theme, which was once the Disney Princess theme, it’s expanded to include many different sorts of sets from a variety of themes including LEGO Minifigures, Art, DOTS, BrickHeadz and more. Because Disney has inspired so many different types of sets, they have offered an impressive array of builds. Here are my Top 10 LEGO Disney sets, I’ve kept them in order of their release as it’s difficult to choose which is best. In all honesty, this list could have included more than 10 sets, but I’ve resisted.
21303: WALL-E
Released: 2015 | Pieces: 677 | Theme: LEGO Ideas | Availability: Retired
LEGO Ideas is known for offering some unique LEGO creations inspired by fan designs. What’s unique about this set is that its fan designer is actually a director from Pixar. Angus MacLane has worked on Toy Story, Finding Dory and Lightyear, but his love of LEGO is well noted and inspired him to recreate the loveable robot Wall•E, which became the 12th Ideas set.
71040: Disney Castle
Released: 2016 | Pieces: 4080 | Theme: Disney | Availability: Retired
This is probably one of the most important Disney-themed LEGO sets. This large-scale recreation of the iconic Cinderella’s Castle from Walt Disney World featured exclusive minifigures and plenty of Disney Easter Eggs. It was a particular hit with adults and predates the 18+/Adults Welcome/Icons sets. It showed that big Disney sets were popular and inspired more to be released.
71012: LEGO Minifigures Disney Series 1
Released: 2016 | Pieces: Various | Theme: LEGO Minifigures | Availability: Retired
Collectable minifigures are always popular but once Disney characters were introduced in 2016, they attracted the attention of non-LEGO fans. The series included 18 iconic Disney characters, with many making their first appearance in LEGO form. Series 1 proves so popular a second series was released in 2019 and a special 100th anniversary series will be released on May 1st.
10766: Woody & RC
Released: 2019 | Pieces: 69 | Theme: 4+/Disney | Availability: Retired
This may seem an odd inclusion, especially as it’s such a small set but I love it. It may be small but it was very fun will some great detail. The RC car, microfig Toy Soldiers, and the new Woody minifigure they were all great, especially for the price. It was part of a larger wave of sets inspired by the various Toy Story films but remains one of the best sets in the entire range.
71044: Disney Train and Station
Released: 2019 | Pieces: 2925 | Theme: Disney | Availability: Retired
After the success of the Disney Castle, the follow-up set also took inspiration from an iconic Disney Parks attraction. This 2019 set was inspired by the train station and stream train used to take visitors around Walt Disney World. Like the Castle, the set also included unique Disney minifigures. It’s also one of the only Disney sets which could be upgraded with Powered Up elements, adding motion and sounds.
43179: Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse
Released: 2020 | Pieces: 1739 | Theme: Disney | Availability: Retired
The next large Disney set deviated from Disney parks to offer buildable versions of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. This was one of the first 18+ sets so offered a slightly trickier build experience. The resulting set offered a unique display piece and a great way to celebrate the world’s most famous mouse.
40378: Goofy & Pluto
Released: 2020 | Pieces: 214 | Theme: BrickHeadz | Availability: Still on sale
Again, this isn’t a massive set or celebrates a special milestone it’s also one of many BrickHeadz sets inspired by Disney characters. It’s just a cute little set featuring two of Disney’s cutest canines. It also nicely links back to the very first time Disney and the LEGO Group worked together by releasing a wooden Pluto toy. It also represents the impressive amount Disney BrickHeadz sets that have been released.
10775: Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck’s Farm
Released: 2021 | Pieces: 118 | Theme: Mickey & Friends | Availability: Retired
When the Mickey & Friends theme was launched, it offered a cheaper way to get hold of Disney minifigures along with an exclusive version of characters. This particular set was of note thanks to some non-Disney creatures. The farm yard setting filled the set will various animals and introduce a new sheep figure.
43202: The Madrigal House
Released: 2021 | Pieces: 587 | Theme: Disney | Availability: Still on sale
Most but not all Disney films are supposed by various companion sets or one-off waves of LEGO themes. Thankfully, this was the case for the surprise smash hit, Encanto. The popularity of the film fuelled interest in the LEGO sets, in particular, this recreation of the magical Madrigal House. It was so popular it sold out, obviously taking the LEGO Group by surprise. Mirabel is set to return alongside other iconic Disney heroines in the recently revealed Magical Treehouse set.
31202: Disney’s Mickey Mouse
Released: 2021 | Pieces: 2658 | Theme: LEGO Art | Availability: Retired
As mentioned Disney is one of few brands to work across different LEGO themes. Mickey was the subject of this LEGO Art set. This unique series of sets allows you to build wall art using a series of LEGO dot elements. You could also use the elements in the set to create an alternate image featuring Minnie Mouse or combine two sets featuring both Disney mice. Further alternative designs are still available for free on LEGO VIP Rewards.
