The Minifigure

There have been a number of products which have switched up the size of the Minifigure, these range from slightly bigger keylights to much larger alarm clocks. The scale of the Wooden Minifigure is 5 times that of the standard. This 5:1 scale was chosen as it would fit with various element to act has accessories for the Minifigure. So for those familiar with other Minifigure products, this is a slightly smaller size than the alarm clocks. Although rather interestingly, the hands are the almost identical on both the Minifigure clocks and the Wooden Minifigure. The space within the ‘grip’ is the same on both, the only difference is the hands on the Wooden Minifigure aren’t as thick.

The Wooden Minifigure is made from high quality and sustainable oak wood. Each one is handmade and as wood as different grain, every single one is unique. You’ll probably notice that it has plastic yellow hands. There are a number of reason for this firstly, it’s to help the product pass toy safety standards. It’s also to provide an anchor point for additional LEGO elements to be added. Within the top ‘stud’ of the head, the classic LEGO element stamp is burnt into the wood. It’s fairly deep and an exact replica of what you’d find on top of a LEGO stud, although not on actual Minifigure.

LEGO Elements

The set includes a number of basic LEGO elements to build into one of five different minibuild. The basis of each of these are a series of 2×2 round bricks. They are the perfect size to fit into the plastic hands. They elements slot into the hand space, unlike actual Minifigures, they aren’t held firmly. The five builds include a lolly, pencil, camera, heart and guitar. What will be interesting it to see how people will use these limited points to add LEGO pieces. The gap between the two hands is 13 studs wide, so it’s a little bit of an odd distance in terms of LEGO scale.

Overall

There is no getting around that this is a costly item. It’s aimed at high-end collectors, and those who like to show off their LEGO fandom is unique, different ways. For the same money you can get a decent sized LEGO set to build. But this is a impressive collectible and for those who can afford it, a unique piece of LEGO merchandise. I like how it can be used as a canvas to add your own creative flare, I personally won’t be jazzing mine up beyond added some LEGO elements. But it will be intersting to see how people us it to make it their own. It’s a shame, there are no points of articulation, beyond the hands but I understand the reasoning behind keeping the Minifigure has a solid single piece. Moveable pieces would have added to the cost of the item. If you can afford one, it’s a impressive display piece.
